James Avery, who rose to stardom as loveable patriarch Philip Banks on the 1990s television series “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” has died. James-Avery
Avery passed away Tuesday evening, his publicist Toni Benson confirmed to CNN Entertainment.
Best known for his role on “Fresh Prince,” Avery was also a classically trained actor who earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in drama from the University of California at San Diego, according to his IMDB page.
Avery grew up in in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
He moved to California, after serving in the U.S. Navy during the war in Vietnam, his IMDB page said.
Once he graduated from college, Avery began writing television scripts and poetry for PBS.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara Avery.
The star had more than 170 acting credits, recently appearing in episodes of the TV series “Harry’s Law” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”
As news of his death emerged, actor Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Avery’s son Carlton Banks on “Fresh Prince” expressed his condolences on Twitter.
“I’m deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly,” Ribeiro tweeted.

What's "actual news" supposed to mean

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. What's true? What is the news corporations priorities and what do you think is priority when it comes to news?

Relevant to who or what? Lindsay lohan is relevant to certain people and to this country's drinking and driving problem. Its not news because you dont care?

How so? I have many sources of great foods, and so does the majority, the species we know, of the ocean life. Now there are problems with both, but to say they are fucked up beyond repair is fallible.

Correct and it may not be beyond repair but that was my was of saying that there has been significant damage done to that particular ecosystem from plankton to the salmon and tuna harvested for human food purposes.

Have you looked at how many Bq of natural radioactive isotopes there are on the Pacific Ocean alone as compared to the Bq of long-term isotopes released by the Fukushima incident? Additionally, have you looked at the actual numbers behind the significant isotopes released and how badly they bioaccumulate up the foodchain? Its a lot less of a threat than most people think, unless you are eating fish bones and clam shells.
Just saying...there are plenty of things going on in the world:
Quote:
MyExample said: The cumulative burning of coal that releases massive amounts of radioactive isotopes into the atmosphere all of the time, the lack of push towards disposing of electronics the way they should be disposed of rather than throwing them in the garbage, the horrid misuse of land in the name of agriculture in the face of obvious solutions, etc...all towards that oh so meaningless bottom line...
that should worry you more than the minute amount of long-term radioactive material released during the Fukushima event...

The bigger threat to the oceans is the current fishing practices. We are already seeing system collapse. Fish harvests are becoming fewer and fewer. The mass killing of sharks and other top predators are causing the jellyfish population to explode. The over fishing of the feeder fish are also causing collapse of the higher end of the food chain.
Just because we have fish available and you can eat it, does not mean that the ocean is in a state of good health.

It was reported on March 16, 2011, that potassium iodide tablets were given prophylactically to U.S. Naval air crew members flying within 70 nautical miles of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant damaged in the massive Japanese earthquake (8.9/9.0 magnitude) and ensuing tsunami on March 11, 2011. The measures were seen as precautions, and the Pentagon said no U.S. forces have shown signs of radiation poisoning. By March 20, the US Navy instructed personnel coming within 100 miles of the reactor to take the pills.[38]
There is your reason...its a precautionary measure. Its also good to note that KI tablets are used in nuclear medicine (cancer treatments and the like), as the essential dietary supplement added to salt, as an expectorant to help clear the respiratory tract, etc.
Additionally, KI tablets are only effective for 24 hours, only protect the thyroid, and only against a few iodine isotopes (most commonly I-131) which has a half-life of 8 days. It has been estimated (and recently backed up by empirical data) that the isotopes entering the water in japan will take roughly 2 years to reach the west coast of North America. During this time, not only will the leakage have diluted over a billion-fold, but the amount of I-131 (which made up a significant portion of the isotopes released) will have decayed down to 0.00000000000000000000000000034 times its original amount.
The Cesium isotopes and tritium are of minimal concern as well since there is minimal bioaccumulation. Tritium dilutes more effectively than any other isotope mentioned (into the water and the air, minimizing its net contribution to counts per unit volume).
The isotope of most concern is Sr-90 because it has a decent half-life and bioaccumulates very readily; however, it accumulates primarily in places where calcium accumulates (bones, shells, other stuff that you typically don't consume anyway). But by the time you run through a couple of years of ocean life, the vast majority of this isotope will be locked up in bone and shell material of larger marine life or detritus at the bottom of the ocean. If any of this drifts into the deep ocean currents, then we won't see it again for a few thousand years (in 1000 years it will have decayed to 0.000000000018 times its original amount).
If you truly are scared, stop eating sardines and other whole fish. At this point you have a higher risk from methylmercury and naturally occurring isotopes in your fish fillets than the synthetic isotopes released by Fukushima...

Thats all pretty interesting.
But I'm not just going to believe our Govt. when they say that nobody ( including our troops ) has been effected. Even if they are telling the truth, I just take it with a grain of salt until more news comes out

Well I'm with you on that, I don't trust the U.S. Govt. to tell us the whole truth at all. Additionally, I know that there is a significant threat to the local ecosystem around Fukushima, and there is significant risk to the workers at Fukushima. The local area and local concentrations of radioactive isotopes are indeed at unsafe levels and should be treated as such. Additionally, KI has been used effectively at other nuclear incidents to protect the local population from the short lived I-131 isotope and its effects on the thyroid for enough time to get them evacuated, and has more than likely reduced the chance of anyone in the area of the plant receiving significant damage to their thyroid.
But the news is there...its just not being blared from television because its not interesting (because its not as bad as everyone thinks it is, and most people have decided that any news contradicting ocean ecosystem collapse and eternal nuclear winter is a conspiracy coverup by the govt. anyway)
All I'm saying is that all of my research on the topic comes from articles that do not site the U.S. Government in any way. This was independent research and data gathered by other countries, universities, etc. The rest is science and math, which is readily available to all if they are willing to use it.

Sorry I'm easily side-tracked, I'll get down off of my soapbox and back on track...
It does suck to lose Uncle Phil he will be missed.
I really liked Fresh Prince as a kid, one of the few programs that everyone in my family could watch and actually enjoy.
