I just renewed. Lost my cultivation rights too, fuck the 25 miles away from dispensary rule.
But, I knew that was going to happen. SO, the reason I renewed is because I am still always going to have bud on me whether im at home or in public, being legal takes the stress away from that.

In my state it's 25 miles away from any state licensed dispensary in order to have authorization to cultivate

What do you mean protect your home?
It makes you legal. If someone breaks in to steal an ounce from you, you're gonna have the right to call the police on them because you're LEGALLY allowed to have that ounce and tell them that's what they are after.
Having a card to me is also purchasing peace of mind.

In my state the ONLY way to get a card, is through the state. Which lists your entire name and address on the card
