Ok, so about a month ago I ordered around 35 seeds of various strains from a trusted source. I proceeded to germinate them using the 'paper towel method'. 30 out of the 35 seeds germinated in 3-4 days. Once about 3/4" of taproot was showing, I placed all of them into Solo cups filled with Miracle-Gro Seed Starting Mix and thoroughly watered the soil. They were then placed into a terrarium, on top of moistened perlite, and 2 24" CFLs with 6500k bulbs were placed across the top of the terrarium. The plants started off great, but soon started 'stretching'. When they reached around 3" tall, they became 'top-heavy' and fell over. I tried taking them outside to get some natural sunlight, but that didn't help.
Now, I only have 3 plants left alive, but their growth seems too be somewhat stunted. I added a fan to try and strengthen the stalks, but growth is still super slow. I have no idea what is going on here, but that was a waste of about $120 in seeds.
This is going to be an outdoor grow, so would it be a better idea to just germinate the seeds and then place them directly into the 3 gallon pots that they'll be living in for the first several months of their lives and place them outside in 75-78F temps?
How close we're the cfl's to the plants? Actually just fill this out:
1. Are you growing from seed or clones? 2. How old are your plants? 3. How tall are your plants? 4. What size containers are they planted in? 5. What is your soil mix? 6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use and how much you give per watering? 7. What is the pH of your water? 8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio? 9. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything? 10. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights") 11. How close are your lights to the plants? 12. What size is your grow space in square feet? 13. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? 14. What is the pH of the soil? 15. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? 16. How much experience do you have growing?

I'm not really interested in saving the few that I have left. I just ordered 30 more seeds from the 'Tude, so I'm just gonna start over. The seeds, once germinated, will go into red Solo cups filled with Miracle-Gro Seed Starting Mix and then placed inside a 1.5ft x 3.5ft clear 'shotgun' terrarium with 2 24" 17-watt CFLs placed 10-12" from the cups. Water used is well-water. Temps are at a constant 78F. No ferts, and they're watered every couple of days. Didn't put a fan on them, but I guess I should've.
Like I said, I'd like to just germinate the next batch and then place them in the 3 gallon buckets with my soil mix (worm castings, blood and bone meal, mixed with a quality organic potting mix). It's gonna be an outdoor grow, so I figured why not let them start outside.

Get rid of the miracle grow. Go with a decent soil to begin with, nothing too hot like you're talking about switching to. Also you probably let them stay too long in the terrarium/overwatered.

Yup, when I used soil I did the exact same thing.

it was overwatering.. with the next batch, water them lightly and then wait till the thing is near dry and then water lightly again..
also... forget about nutes until they have at least 2 nodes and 2-4 sets of fan leaves.. they will be about 3-6 inches tall then.. when you start using nutes i recommend about 1/8th to 1/4 the nutrient strength..
