 Digital Greenhouse Ballast not firing

Hey guys, i ordered a new digital greenhouse (htg) 1000w ballast setup with the bulb reflector, everything. get my package open it test and the fucking thing wont fire. it powers the bulb for a split second than fades to that violet and dies. this happens about every 15 seconds the ballast is plugged but never fires the bulb. the 800 number is closed for the weekend so i come before you all with the question, "what the fuck, man?" any advice is pershiated.

No one here is going to be able to fix it man. Sounds like you got a busted ballast.

A bad bulb can also do that. When I got a case of the flickers like you just described it was the bulb. If you can't get another bulb to test with or don't have a store near buy that will let you test your ballast (most hydro stores will esp if you lead them to believe you're going to buy the replacement from them) replace them both and save time. (Both should be under warranty)

i know its probly a bad idea, but, to test it could i hook up a 400 watt bulb and set the ballast to 600w? 400s are all i have handy.

Make sure to check if you have it set to 120v or 240v... if it is not firing that means that it is prolly set to 240 and you are on a 120v circuit.. if it was the other way around.. then your ballast would have blown.. so be very careful.. set it to 120v and turn it on again..
ALSO make sure that there are at least 9 amps available for when you first turn it on.. since a 1000 watt needs 15 amps to fire then goes down to nine.. i think that a 400 - 600 will need about 9..

it doesnt look like it has a 120/240v switch. the website made it seem like it automatically sensed 120/240v. im gonna test it with a new bulb but i think its just gonna be a bunk ballast. Fuck a duck man... has anyone had to go through the exchange process with HTG? relatively painless or is it like pulling teeth?

HTG will make it as painless as possible man.
Call them before shipping, then call them with the tracking number and they will ship same day.
I've had to return my ballast twice now. They are easy to get along with.
As for the 120/240 thing you only have to change the cord. There are no switches to worry about.

oh yeah.. doi.. i have a 400w digital ballast that has the cord switch and a 1000w that has a switch.. so it was a possibility.. but the newer models are cord switch only.. hope you have a good experience getting a new ballast..
