I'm vegging atm and doing some LST. I've removed 2 fan leaves at the very bottom that weren't in the best condition anyway and were blocking some light to the bottom nodes. Is it ok if I leave these trimmed leaves in my container to recycle them back to the roots or am I promoting disease?

I like to compost everything I prune in a big 55 gal tumbler outside then add it to outdoor beds or mix it with soil after its fully cooked. Just placing them in a container will not break them down the same way they'd be broken down in the ground. It will do more harm than good in a container.
So yeah get any dead vegetation out of your indoor grow ASAP! A friend of mine is real lazy when it comes to removing dead stuff and sweeping, so it was no surprise when we started seeing little gnats pop up, as well as molds like budgrower mentioned.
