 need some input for what guage electrical wire to use wiht my grow lights

hey my 1st question is .. my digital ballast can be used as 120 or 240 volt. Now I was told that if I run my ballast on 240 It would burn less watts wich would help decrease my power bill ..is that true??
next im going to be running two 400w ballast(1.87amps at 240 volt each ballast) in my veg room . and two 1000w ballast(4.375amps at 240 volt each ballast) in my flower room.
so im just trying to figure out what would be the best way to run them. any imput would be great

240 would be best. How are you wiring? Are you going directly to your breaker box ( homerun) or are you using an outlet? If using an outlet you need a dryer/stove type outlet and run a 10/0 from outlet to breaker box with a minimum of 30amp breaker. If running direct use a 8/0 wire from light to breaker box.

im going to run direct lines to my breakbox so the lights will be on there own lines the will have a outlet for the ballast to hook up to

OK cool, then use 10/0 to box and outlet, you should be fine.
