Rain Water
    #631470 - 07/12/12 12:33 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

When I used to simply grow normal vegetables and herbs indoors I would always collect rain water because I believed it was superb! gods creation! I am a legal authorized patient and the other day we got a large downfall! I collected 5 gallons of rain water easily from a runoff gutter! The only thing that seems to be in the water is maybe a little bird shit which is good! I tested the PH in the large bucket and it bounced between 6-7, today I took a small sample and it was 8! I am guessing that is because it was a smaller concentration of H+ ions in the smaller sample! ( I now understand that is completely wrong and both samples should have read the same, error most have been in the instrument)

I read that rain water lacks calcium and magnesium. Well I have brioschi antacid from NY not many people no about it.. and it is calcium carbonate, would adding a simple stick of this fortify the calcium deficiency or just a completely retarded idea to add, or just use the water as is.

ingredients:
calcium bicarbonate
tartaric acid
sugar
corn syrup
lemon flavor

nothing seems harmful might just be a great calcium additive!

The calcium probably isn't in a form that wold be available to the plants.

And you're theory on the pH isn't correct at all.  What kind of container are you storing said water in.

And FYI, when stored it can grow bacteria and algae that can be very bad for your plant.

store your rain water in opaque 5 gallon buckets, in a cool dark place.
just get a calcium-magnesium supplement from the local hydro-hut.
