im a little straped for cash and i need a cheap way to light my crop. does anyone know how to make a home made light that would be bright enough for a couple plants through the whole grow process? or does anyone know if you can just keep adding thoughs CFL 2 way split things until you have enough lights?

Just stick to cfl's if cash is an issue.

I think you should tell him how many Watts he should try to get per plant. I can't tell because I don't know.

I'd use at least 150 watts per square foot, if I had to use cfl's or t5 or any fluorescent for that matter.
With HID's I use 75 to 100 wpsf.

As a general rule of thumb, you want to shoot for between 75 and 100 watts per square foot. CFL's are easier than long flouros IMO because you can hang them wherever they're needed, and really close to the plant, too...

before my HID ballast came in a few months ago I built a hood out of: 8" galvanized vent tube (about 24") 2x2 on each end to make a dome shape (about 5') 4' romex - electrical wire 3 - medium bulb bases 3 - bulb spliters 6 - 23w 6500k cfls for a total of about 8000 lumes a computer power cord (for wall plugin)
it cost me about $15 to build + the bulbs and it worked in veg just fine. If you were going to try to use something like this you would probably want to build at least a 2nd before switching to flowering.

well what i ment is can i put together 3 e27 to 2x e27 together to get 4 florescents out of one outlet. how would i know if the wattage for the light would be too much for the socket or whatever?

Go look at the breaker for the room. It is most likely 15A. if so then 15A * 120V = 1800W. So to answer your question, 4 florescent bulbs is probably about 27W (x4) is only 108W. That is not even 1A of power. You should be fine
