Are you a person who thinks they are not being monitored by the US government or NSA or FBI?
    #624427 - 05/25/12 10:18 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Well perhaps you should think twice. According to a man who worked for the NSA
for 40 years and retired from after what the NSA decided to do after 9/11 says
they have repeatedly broke the law and have thrown our liberties out the window
in regards to cyber privacy. Now they are trying to make the things they do legal
so that they cannot be held accountable for the crimes they have committed in the
recent years after 9/11. Its easy to say yeah we are fucked but its better to be
aware and communicate these things with people.

I mean most people probably dont have to worry at this point but so many are
still oblivious. I have been thinking about using the tor network but that alone
even though by using such a thing is protecting your own privacy and liberty can
possibly make you look like a suspect or considered a threat by these pieces of
shit.

Its getting worse and worse. Anyone hear about all the drones that will be flying
over the USA by 2020?

What exactly are you afraid about with the FBI internet surveillance?

More on these US drones....

"Big Brother is watching you more closely than ever — and soon, perhaps, with drones. The pilotless aircraft that the U.S. government has used to spy on (and kill) insurgents in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere were approved by the Federal Aviation Administration last week for local law enforcement. Federal officials already had that permission.

Police drones soon could be flying over Americans’ heads, surveilling everything from people watering their lawns when that’s banned during a drought, to swimming in their backyard pools.

It’s similar to what police already can do with helicopters. But drones are much quieter, cheaper — and getting cheaper by the day.

Police choppers can cost $500,000 to $3 million. Drones cost from $20,000 to $30,000. Fuel, maintenance and operations also are much cheaper. Drone crashes also don’t kill pilots, perhaps only the occasional civilian.

Recent technology allows drones to spot patterns of crop growth, such as that of a sick person growing medical marijuana on an apartment porch, people smoking cigarettes where’s banned in public parks or drivers talking on hand-held cellphones.

The privacy issue is “similar to that raised by videos” in public places, according to Jacob Sullum, a senior editor at Los Angeles-based Reason magazine who has written widely on privacy issues. He said that court rulings have allowed police surveillance in public places, because there’s no reasonable expectation of privacy. “The problem is, you can set up networks of these cameras on street corners,” he said. “It’s cheaper than putting a cop on every corner.”

Although the courts allow government helicopters to spy on people, there relatively aren’t that many such aircraft in use. It could be another matter if a much greater number of drones were routinely patrolling the skies.

And the courts still haven’t declared whether police can gather cellphone data, such as whom someone has called during the past month, without court permission.

All these matters “will have to be sorted out” in court, Sullum observes. “This is very intrusive surveillance without court supervision.”

“The feds predict that they will dispatch or authorize about 30,000 of these unmanned aerial vehicles across America in the next 10 years,” warned former judge Andrew Napolitano, now senior judicial analyst at the Fox News Channel. He asked, “If the drone operator sees you doing anything of interest (Is your fertilizer for the roses or to fuel a bomb? Is that Sudafed for your cold or your meth habit? Are you smoking in front of your kids?), the feds say they may take a picture of you and keep it.”

Ubiquitous government surveillance was one element of the nightmare society depicted in George Orwell’s novel “1984.” Authorities today should not be in a hurry to make the analogy any more apt."

Personally I am not worried because Im not really doing anything wrong. Most
people feel this way. The fact is though that they are collecting this information
which should be private and they do so without our knowledge and have and are
completely ignoring the constitution in doing so. Not to mention the fact that they
are trying to militarize cyber space.

This stuff is worth worrying about as far as the future is concerned dont you think?

Being aware is the first step. Now I think this stuff will no doubt come into
play in the future. Whenever that may be as this countries economy and well
corruption is going to catch up and start effecting everyone that wants so badly
to ignore this bullshit on "main street". When you have corporations like AT&T
directly working with the NSA, FBI, and CIA by selling your info I mean they have
everything on you if they want it.

No one should worry about anything in my opinion. We have this situation and we
have to deal with it. We should not be scared of the potential harm this can cause
as the power is still within us, the masses. We are the soldiers that make up the
army and navy what have you but everyone needs to be aware and speak out.

The government creating routes to gain "private" information on "us" has been going on since, maybe, the Red Scares. Definitely before we were born. You're just naming a few examples of the new ways to get this "information".

I don't like it either. But, I don't care enough to trick myself into think that I can do something about it. I also don't live a life where I should be paranoid about these alleged government intrusions into my life. Then again, I don't use facebook, and don't have a phone either.

Now, when you say it's going to catch up and affect us in the future, what do you mean exactly?

If enough people cared to speak out against this type of thing something could
be done. But you see and you know that the majority care too much about
Britney Spears haircut or who snooki just fucked.

Its my opinion that if this country does fall into complete economic chaos
people are going to lash out somewhere and I believe the government would be
the main target. If that does happen it will give the NSA and CIA and FBI much
more reason to target anyone considered a threat in the name of homeland security.

Will this happen? Maybe maybe not but it doesnt change the fact that these
people think they have all the wiggle room in the world to implement this stuff
all they want. Either we all become aware and stop it. Or we sit back and let
1984 come to fruition.

These people, or the intelligence agencies, know they have the means to carry out what the country, government and citizen, expects of them. Your "problem" are not every ones problem. There is no solution to your problem because there is no problem. Most of us all already aware of the anti-privacy policies our country passes.

Your problem has no focus, it's just a "us vs them" argument. "Stopping it" is just a Utopian dream, IMO, reading what you post me.

1984 has been in fruition before the book was written. The "idea" didn't come from his bowl of alphabet soup

me too. Like most white, middle class Americans I constantly threaten to move to Canada. I have a plan, though. I will employ a spider monkey to clean my house and search for lost roaches/carpet weed. the monkey will then gain the trust of Stephen Harper and litter his house with the aforementioned cannabis procurements. At this point I will alert the authorities of his apparent hypocrisy. Harper will be arrested and publicly humiliated. Subsequently, Canada will be saved, tell the US to fuck off and fully marilize legajuana.

If you think leaving the country is the answer then you should find a new solution.

And as far as the us vs them is concerned that is exactly how it is.
They are not serving the interests of the people as they were meant
To. And there are solutions. Don't play the game on their terms.

The United states is nothing compared to the outlandish nature of 1984.
Yes fucked up shit happens here all the time, laws and policies corrupt
officials. But still nothing like the book. But we are on our way.

Stopping it is easy. Again dont play the "game" on their terms.
