Alright. LED.

So I usually can't grow during the summer months because of temperatures. I can sorta get by with my 150w HPS but not quite. Still too hot on peak days.
So, I'm thinking of picking up one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Quad-band-450-LED-Grow-Light-Panel-Hydroponic-Plant-Lamp-Blue-Red-Orange-White-/300692534126?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4602abf36e
to do some solo cup SOGs under during the summer.
Opposed to not growing, would you get one of these and make it work, or would you just save your money and wait?

I would spend the money on an air conditioner.

My house has those stupid windows that are vertical not horizontal so I can't get a/c on the second floor. I can't saw holes either. Well, I could, but I'm not exactly a master craftsman.

ya and that panel is only 14 watt!? I am not expert but seems like not much even for LED? im sure a couple 40 watt CFL would be just as good?

Save your money. You'd be better off with 60 bucks worth of cfl's compared to those panels.

so those LED panels are shit?
I remember seeing a web site claiming a pannel was equal to one 1000 hps lamp.

they are not shit, but they are expensive for what you get.
Some people like them and some say they are really not any good and are only slightly better per what then HPS. but in either case I wouldnt even bother with anything less then something then that is 90watt otherwise just toss a CFL in there and will do alot better likely.

Meh, I'll just keep my mother in the veg room and cut clones from her to stick outside. I might not have any new bud all summer, but I have enough to hold me over...and in the long run, outdoor plants will pay off much more anyway.
I certainly have a place to put them, and shit, 3 clones every 2 weeks by the beginning of September...hooooooooooooooooooboy.

They are. According to HTG, a Ballasted system gives 1000watts. But the plant will only use about 14% of the nutrients. LED is a more, according to some sources, efficient array of light spectrums. HTG claims plants will use 100% of the Nutrients a LED light gives off. Although I think that's exaggerated. Good example is my 185watt 7band LED grow light is supposedly equivalent to a 1500watt HPS system. *shrugs* all I know is its working on my plants. Although they are just vegetative stage. The real test comes later!
Anyway hope that helps

Of course HTG is going to say that. They want to sell you shit.
I can guarantee that if you gave me 1500 watts of HPS I can outgrow whoever I'm put up against with 185 watts of LED.
LEDs work fine though. But these claims are a bit ridiculous.

I can assure you it takes a good bit of growing experience and knowledge of the plant itself to match the yields of a 400 HPS with 185 watts of LED. I speak from experience.
I've seen some 300+ watt LEDs come close to the yields of a 600 HPS.
But I still choose my 600 HPS's over my LEDs.

for some applications LED is just better. Like if you have to get a ton of light into a tight spot where you can't be bothered with worrying about cooling, I'd use one of these: http://www.hydrogrowled.com/Penetrator-84X-PRO-LED-Grow-Light-P84.aspx I've done tons of digging and they're the best I've seen.

I can agree with what krum is saying but I also agree with hawksapprentice. Those claims and percentages seem a bit twacked especially if you put a led up againsed someone with the expierence of hawksapprentice and give him a 1200 watt hps. But I like the convience of led for not having to worry about cooling. And some led setups have fans built in for circulation.

Word NSFWMainer, it all depends on your needs, expectations and available resources for your grow.
HID Lighting provides an analog light source with wavelengths pretty close to that of naturally occurring sunlight.
I may get ripped by a light expert for that comment, but when you see an HPS bulb in action it just looks like fucking sunlight. LED technology will come around. In fact, right now, the 5 band LED setup I've witnessed in action will probably always deliver a niche that HPS cannot provide and vice versa.
I feel that LED's will be how we grow weed in space for sure. So that is why I won't go back to HID.
