Well it depends on where you live man.  But more than likely pretty damn big if your starting now.  I would go with no smaller than 30 gallon pots.

I've soured on the ground. All my plants always get eaten by rabbits and deers and shit. Putting them in pots at least allows you a few feet boost.

That, and I had a really awesome plant that I topped like 5 times in the dirt one year. I'd check it weekly or so. I went back one week, and the entire thing was dead. I pulled it gently, and the entire root system had been eaten by some kind of underground asshole :mad2:

Not that I'm saying it won't work, just saying I understand why he prefers pots/bags.

Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

Agreed, a plant outside is more than likely going to get rootbound in a 7 gallon pot. Try to find pots that are taller than they are wide as well.

some things i have experienced growing in a season that finishs at the end of sept are the plants in 5 gallon buckets finished and ripened up much sooner then my plants in the 12 gallon bags, the ones in the 12s were much larger but had serious mold problems from taking an extra 2 weeks to ripen .point is bigger root space needs more time so it depends on the climate your growing in .
wait a while to plant, its pretty early yet for 7 gallion bags,6oz is average yield with 5 gallion buckets

I've found that true indoors too. A nearly rootbound plant will finish up a lot faster.

When I've done outdoor we would use 100 gallon pots.  There's no reason not to put them in a lot of soil.

7 gallon would be minimum for outdoors
these were both in 5 gallon buckets of homemade soil-started in April finished in oct/November yielded 4.5-5 oz of pristine buds each

picture was taken in august

October is when I was harvesting.  Would veg the plants indoors all winter with my indoor grows and then put them out in mid April.  Fuckers would get huge.
