Moldy Buds
    #612900 - 03/16/12 11:49 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Right I know this is a somehow out of place post, but I'm interested to hear what you guys have to say.... I had noticed that the buds I just bought and kept in an air tight glass jar seemed more frosted than usual, until last time where I took a closer look and saw the trichs too big and white for it to be normal. It loooks like mold . I hate it when people sell bud that's not properly dried!!!!!! I also shaked the buds in the jar and some dust came out, spores I pressume. So I took the buds and placed them in a piece of paper towel folded in half and then placed that next to a window.... I couldn't resist it and vaped a little bit (I had been vaporizing it anyway) no discomfort except for maybe a little flem forming. I know you might say moldy bud is a risky thing, but don't we inhale spores all the time? I'm hoping the buds dry so that the mold dies, but the bud will be full of spores anyway, right? how risky is it to keep them, really?

If not, is there any other way I can salvage my buds!?

THANKS!

That's a bummer.  I have no clue on the health of smoking it or not.  You could make butter out of it to salvage them and not worry about the mold.

half ounce, the equivalent of $20 in my currency, but it's quite a bit to me.

I had some yesterday, and since I've been drying it next to a window, the buds are cracker dry, the nice mango smell taste is gone but the effect is what it was, I think. No ill effects other than a slight headache at the end of the comedown, but that could be something else. The mold seems to be close to gone but I'm sure it's still full of spores. On monday it will be a week of drying could I shake of the spores and put it back into a jar or baggie?

yeah I'd say that's the most sensible thing to do, however I'm not into the long lasting stoned effect of edibles... I have a few pics of the buds now, the mold "seems" to be gone, I'll post soon.

Just because you cant see it doesn't mean it's not there.  Just eat less of it.

im not sure if id wanna eat butter from moldy buds.

I usually make iso or butane oil from moldy buds.  solvent is sure to kill all mold and spores.

i find easiest way to tell if ur buds are moldy is the smell.  moldy buds have a very distinct smell.

I think after simmering for 12 hours it would be just fine.

FWIW I've made iso hash from moldy buds (cobweb) and I'm still here today. I figured if the alcohol in ISO is able to sterilize other stuff, why wouldn't it sterilize moldy buds?

But yeah I wouldn't smoke the buds themselves either.

Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

Man that looks like a hard thing to catch! Is the mold visible to the eye? Is it the white looking dots? How does one's buds become moldy..not drying it soon enough? Sorry for the all the questions

Not drying it all the way and then putting it in a closed container.

yes visible with the eye, yes the white looking dots, that where even kinda blueish. The buds where only slightly more moist than what I thought should be when I recieved them, they had spent about a month in a glass jar...

Yeah well but does it kill any eventual fungus toxins? I mean if I knew that this mold was harmless, I'd say smoke it anyways
