Okay, so I have decided I kinda want to put my crawlspace like area to good use, but wanted some others thoughts before I set out to work on this.
This room in my basement was never finished digging out when the house was built in the 50s, it's bone dry and never really has had any issue with insects or pests or whatever, so I think it will be an okay area to grow in. But considering I'm not too familiar with growing I wanted to hear others concerns, thoughts on best method and equipment in the area, etc etc.
So the areas in white are a full 8' tall room with a dirt floor. as you come in the room, on the right in the area in red is a furnace and some of the ducting and things that goes with it so it's unusable. (I replaced the furnace a couple years ago and when I did I built in some access doors in this wall in appropriate places to keep from having to enter the room to service it.)
The area with the green is roughly 2' wide x 3' deep x 5' tall. and the rest of the room, the grey area, is filled with clay and rock and is roughly 8' wide x 8' deep x 30" tall. With that low of a roof and the layout I'd say probably only 5-6' x 2' x 30" is actually usable as grow space as everything beyond that is out of reach.
The part with the star is a 5" air vent that goes straight up out the roof of my house. Its the old furnace's exhaust vent but the new furnace was exhausted out a different way.
I'd like to keep my budget around $200 starting out, and then my equipment can grow from there... My thought would be to start out by isolating off that green area into a box on it's own and put a 125 watt CFL light in there. grow a couple plants to learn and whatnot in there, then eventually get a 400 watt HPS light or two, set up a SOG style setup or something along those lines in the grey area and turn the green area into a place to keep a mother plant.
My biggest concern is the temp in the area... right now it hovers around 60 degrees all the time... will this be workable? I assume once I get lights and things this will bring up the temp to where it needs to be.
