High Quality Tincture(s) - Research & Development...

As a fortunate contributor, I have had the opportunity to delve into the market as both patient in this crazy "state" regulated market, transitioning from a completely underground and UN-regulated black market of goods. My experience with most edibles, even "home made tinctures", has been less than desirable and nothing but disappointing.
The majority of medicinal grade edibles (soda, suckers, candy) do nothing but knock me out. My "specialist" prescribing physician insists the benefits of edibles far outnumber the benefits of smoking. I've found some reverse engineering that can isolate the healing and feel good effects of indica minimizing the head high yet sir-on-topem couch effects of sativa, when it comes to edibles.
If someone has already done this, please let me know! I searched and searched but couldn't find it...!
I'm doing the research anyway, let me know if you are interested and I'll make it a point to come back here and post the details.

Good video. I'm very interested in what you have to share. I'd really like to learn how to better and more accurately make a tincture.....I feel I waste a bit of product in the process. I've only made alcohol based tinctures.

Thanks Joe & Hawk! I have never personally made a tincture at all. But I have done a lot of research on the "edible" side of consumption and it's benefits / downsides. I'll keep this post updated with my progress!

The initial purpose is to test the end potency delivered by two different extraction processes fused into two different types of liquid editable bases.
There are numerous "recipes" that claim you can put all foliage (leafs, stems, etc) into these extraction methods. For the purposes of what I am trying to accomplish I am only using HIGH quality trim, not just leafs or "foliage". By HIGH quality I mean leaf particles groomed from buds and leaf material that visibly has crystals on it somewhere, even if you embellish a little bit. No visible stems, nothing you know that should have gone into the garbage already!
The strain I am using is my own 50/50 indica | sativa hybrid with the highest levels of CBDs & CBNs possible.
In a pinch; lean towards an Indica dominate strain for similar or improved results.
Obviously you can substitute various strains (I would love to hear your results if you do), but reverse engineering medical grade tinctures / elixir requires balance; the wrong strain used can be overwhelmed with sativa "sleepy & somber" effects. Expect variations from my results should you stray from these instructions. The overall goal is to produce a liquid edible that will relieve pain, can be used during the day in lieu of pain killers, and does not compromise outward appearance in the manner that smoking in the middle of the day does, while at the same time provides a better effect than smoking anyway.
The first thing I am NOT going to do, while often and curiously suggested in novice thru expert teks, is wash / rinse and or strain the trim.
Because I am starting with high quality in the first place the last thing I want to do is wash off all of those precious crystals in my sink.
I believe that rinsing, draining - whatever you want to call it, not only degrades the end product, but causes you to waste more material than you should.
Instead I am going straight to extraction!
Beginning with 4oz of HQ trim to work with here is the first of two different extraction method attempts.
- Vegetable Oil Resin Extraction Method: * || Ingredients || * + 0.50 liters (two cups) of light (optimally 'clear') vegetable oil. + 0.75 liters (three cups) of water + 2 ounces (56 gm) HIGH quality trim * || Directions || * 1. Pour .75 liters water into pot / saucepan you have a cover for 2. Sift in the 2oz of HQtrim 3. Pour .50 liters of vegetable oil & stir everything together for 1 - 3 minutes 4. Bring the liquid to a boil - watch carefully and catch when it begins to boil 5. As soon as boiling occurs, immediately reduce heat to low - cover pot with lid and allow it to simmer for two hours 6. During the simmer process make it a point to stir at least once every 30 minutes, or at least 4 times. 7. Remove from heat and strain with colander being careful to catch all of the liquid coming out of the colander into a container. 8. Pour an additional 0.25 liters of water (one cup) into the now empty pot and bring to a boil 9. While waiting press wet trim against colander to drain all the liquid out you possibly can 10. Once additional water begins to boil, remove from heat, and pour over wet trim to wash remaining oil out 11. Again press the trim to extract as much liquid as possible into container below colander 12. Let the mix stand (covered) at room temp for 1 to 2 hours. Once this time elapses you can see the mix separate, with the water at the bottom and oil at the top. 13. Cover again and place into the freezer for 4-6 hours. 14. Remove from freezer and pour off or scrape off top extract layer into separate container. [NOTE: If you stop here you have oil that will last a month at room temp. For 3-4 month storage option place in freezer, don't attempt to consume after exp on label. Oh yeah! Label good people label!]
