Seedling fell over

My seedling had just cleared the dirt a day ago or so. It has a dark red or brown stalk sticking up about half an inch to the first two tab leaves and the first two tiny ridged leaves. Over night a small section at the bottom of the stalk has turned white and the seedling tipped over. Trying to stand it up I see the white area is flaccid and cant support the plant. Is it under or over watered? It's not ain a green house of any kind, just in a computer box between 2 fans.

You can tell in the picture but the leaves do look healthy, they just have a little dirt on them

Yes over watering can cause that.
Are the fans blowing directly on them?

There is no need to water it at all. I don't think it's rotting. I've seen seedlings do that before. You need to get the light as close as possible to that guy, CFl's don't put off shit for heat, so get them no less than 3-4 inches away from the seedling. It'll start growing buck up towards.
And by no need to water at all I mean let it go for at least a week for a minimum.

Too helpful sir. I've got it about 2 inches away right now, temp in the cup is around 81F its a little high but that was measured when they were a little closer. How close is too close?

Touching at this stage is too close. I'd get it at 3 inches.

In situations like this, I always suggest splitting a straw with a razorblade and cutting it down to size. You can put the leafs/cotyledons above the top of the straw, and stick the straw down into the dirt.
Saved me when I used to start them in the windowsill.
-------------------- Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

I just burrie them a bit more til the dirt held them up, like a mound around them.
The only time ive ever had that problem was due to stretching :P

I can see theres what looks like a tiny bit of mold on the root base. I think its def root rot. The top of the plant has wilted more and the stalk has shrunken up as if the roots arent extracting water. I've since stopped watering to let it clear up. Do you think it's possible she'll recover? or should i just go ahead and toss it
