English Class

So at the beginning of University I had to do a english exam to see the level of my english... I was set to English Advanced III (which is required for my program, so I had to do the class). I went to the class yesterday, I had no fucking reason to be there honestly... The teacher kept asking students for questions, and like the 3/4th of the class couldn't say a normal sentence without mistakes or thinking. She kept asking the same students (who had problems talking in english) for more questions, when she asked me one, she saw my english was quite good, and never bothered me again for all the class(I was quite high).
She made us write a 150 words text to evaluate our level of english, and it appears that mine is way higher than English Advanced III ... So I should be in English Adv. IV (which is the most difficult english class), but I do not even need that class, all I need is to be higher than III.
So ... well... I have no more english class

Eh by focus do you mean the program I am studying?
I am studying Anthropology, but here it is mostly social anthropology. I know in US, archeology is a branch of anthropology, but here it isn't since we are closer to the european anthropo.
I mostly focus on southern americas, and also on natives americans.

coolio, one of my good friends is an anthro major leaning more towards forensic I think... I think I'm gonna pick up some of those books you suggested in your book thread. I'm under the umbrella of fine arts so I can't remember the last good book I read, for I get them primarily for their pictures.

Haha nice man! I strongly reccomend Baudelaire's Artificial Paradises, but I dont know how well it is traducted in english, also the Bob Marley biography in comics was quite great also! Junky is more likely a great book about an opiate addict (and written by one), not everyone likes such thangs, but the subject fascinate me

I fucking wish I kept up with French, I used to be fluent as a child and now I can barely form a sentence and I can't pick up anything anyone says. I want to start that up again and maybe learn some Mandarin, they will be our overlords soon enough.

Well really my job helps a lot, I speak english to like 1 client on 3, and this forum helps me a lot also, I try not to make mistakes when I write, I know I do some but when the spelling check tells me there aren't I am quite happy because I know I didn't write a word like a dumbass. I am quite fluent in english, I don't have trouble at all talking with someone with an accent (like Texans), except maybe the England's accent...
I want to learn a native indian language, like maybe Wendat or Naskapi, or maybe from the natives in south america... I also want to speak fluent spanish, I can talk a bit, but only in present.
But the key into not forgetting the basics of a language, in my opinion, are to use it, I personally sometimes think in spanish for easy thangs, I have a friend who married a dominican girl, so I try to practice my spanish with her. French is no exception, I know it is a fucking horrible language to learn, quite difficult compared to english or spanish.
If you ever come in Québec, since accent is quite unique, some people who can speak french with a real french (from France)and understand them can have real troubles here, I guess I can compare it a bit to creole, we use so many english expressions that ever France's people dont understand at all.
Here is our swears if you wanna learn them: Crisse, Calice, Tabarnak, Ostie, Ciboire (well these 5 are the most commons) and also rouquin (gingers). Also beer is bière and pot is pot, or cannabis, or ganja, or herbe, or verdure, or green, or tabac vert...etc. You might need em.

I have the Rosetta Stone for something like 25 languages...maybe I'll begin with French. I speak some Spanish, but its been a long time. I've gotten to the point where I can understand it, but all the conjugations beyond the present tense are a mystery to me when I try to speak it.

I studied French and German but I've lost so much. If someone talked to me in French I probably wouldn't know what to say back any more. It's a lot easier for me to read it than write it, especially since English is about 1/3 French vocab.
Once I finish university I might go back to night school or just practice them more in my spare time. I need to find some native German and French speaking friends.

I only did 2 years in high school of Spanish because it was required, but I really retained a lot of it.
I'm pretty sure I could get by in a situation where I had to understand Spanish. I mean, I'm in no way fluent, but I at least get the giest of stuff if people speak slowly.

Yea I will never forget watching my mum scratch her head with this super wtf look on her face when she was trying to speak French (which she learned while I was growing up in Vergranne) to somebody from Québec, they were almost speaking different languages at some points, I think she even tried to switch to Spanish at one point to try and make some middle ground

That is so funny!
At my job I see a lot of tourists who speaks english, there aren't a lot who attempt to speak french, but I know if I'd keep my accent, none of them would understand, I need to speak a "universal french".
But I have to say I love my language, I love the sound of it, I love our slangs, I am quite proud of it
