LEDs are a touchy topic. Some units work well, and others aren't worth the material they're made out of.
Do you have a unit in mind? I've tested many different LED units over the past two years or so. I still find that the 6 band units with 3 watt or greater chips work the best.
Most LED companies lie about the square footage of coverage as well.
You should read carefully before ordering because some LEDs are made for different phases of growth such as veg and flower, tho in most cases the flowering units veg well.
LEDs still have a ways to go, before they are perfect, but they are coming along quickly these days. Tho prices are still high as fuck.
I'll try to answer any questions you have, tho I admit I don't know every thing.
Also would like to point out the related threads, just below the quick reply box, near the bottom of the page.

No heat which means no temp problems and no burning even when plants are touching the lens.
This truly depends on the unit itself. I've seen a many of sunburn plants under LED, granted this isn't really heat related, but does happen with high powered chip sets. And yes it's a bit slower here thna the shroomery, we don't have their member count yet.
