What are the advantages/disadvantages of using a 5 gallon bucket (or other container) vs planting directly in the ground?
Some things I've noticed are..
Buckets can be moved easily, plants in the ground cannot.
Plants in buckets have limited root space, plants in the ground do not.
Exposed buckets have higher temps, an exposed pot will be the air temperature which is often too hot . Not good for root system. Can be circumvented by burying bucket (?).
High bucket soil temps cause moisture loss terribly, forcing the grower to water more often and leach the nutrients from the soil.
Plants in the ground have much lower temps @ the roots.
IME, buckets do not yield as much as a natural grow would.
Lets hear some tips for using containers effectively!
I much prefer to cultivate in the ground. given control of a growing area of 4 to 12 square feet, reasonable soil will grow a plant that is 7- 8 feet tall with roots that spread 5 feet across and 6 feet deep, giving much higher yields. Though pots are good in the fact that you can stash your plants
If light and space are abundant, a large root system is very important to get large plants and yields. Buckets are only used because you can move them.
Quote: My plant is in a bucket, after how much time I put it in the soil for better yield?
You can always put them in the soil. No need to wait if you don't need to move them. Make sure the soil is good though, because good soil in a bucket may be better than crappy soil in the ground.
Quote: I'm currently working on an outdoor patch, how much meters I put from each plant ?
I don't know, the size they become depends on growing conditions and strain. 2 meters should be enough, but that's just a guess. Less is also possible if you don't have the space.
