hmm..Can i grow a plant upside down..light on the ground?
    #597857 - 11/21/11 01:01 PM (13 years, 9 days ago)

Has anyone done this before? I know they have those upsidedown tomatoes but they curve up and reach for the sun and i want to put the light on the ground faceing up so in theory it should reach down and my guess grow quicker due to gravity....idk give me some input here...lol

Lol no.

Also, as far as I know, roots drink from the bottom and prefer it to be airy near the top (hence why hempy grows work). Flipping it upside down would completely reverse that and probably stunt the growth it anything.

I could be mistaken.

Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

it wouldnt cause it to stretch more? not having gravity pushing down on it but pulling it towards the ground. less stress on the plant because its working with gravity being upside down instead of against gravity...right?

Growing it upside down would force the plant to be a male sativa.

i used to know this guy that grew some dank weed, and claimed to grow it upside down.
I never asked any questions though, because his weed was the best i've ever had. So sad he went to jail.

It can and has been done many times.
The plants will grow to the light.
Quicker no, and gravity has nothing to do with it.

I always thought gravity effected the direction the plants grow more than light

Yeah sure, I guess that's why plants grow up and not down outside.
If gravity was greater than light to a plant, then the fucker would ground across the grow and not raise upwards to the light.

Hell if you then to see proof of this grow any plant in a room start with light above it, for a week, then place the light on a wall or even the floor.  Then watch what the plant has to say on the subject.

It wont work. The plant will begin to "right" itself. the stem will curve upward and you'll just be feeding the bottom of your leaves with light.

All plants contain certain hormones that effect growth. One of these is Gravitrophin (SP?). This Hormone causes decreased cell wall growth on sections it touches. Seeing as its allowed to freely flow through the cell membrane; it will all pile up along the "bottom" of the cell. This will cause one side of the wall to stretch more than the other. This happens over and over and over until your plant is facing the right direction.

The inverse effect happens on the roots when exposed to gravitrophin.

Edit: The effect is called Gravitropism; however, I still cant find the name of the hormone itself.

In order to grow good weed you need to be part carpenter, electrician, plumber, biologist, geneticist, chemist, and very willing to get dirty.

I've been working with power tools since I was 8, my dad is an electrical engineer who owned a 280 gal fish tank, and I studied biology with a specialty in genetics. Getting dirty comes naturally. I think my parents inadvertently trained me to be a weed grower.

See what you think on my first try.

Eh, even if you can get the photo hormones to overpower the gravity based ones I don't seeing it being that hugely benificial. You're plants are still going to want to curve upward (even if they are growing toward the light). I just for see it being difficult to properlly implement.

I have a feeling a weed plant would do the same as a tomatoe in a "topsy turvey" pot. It will grow downward for 1/4 to 1/3 of its total height, than it will grow outward for some distance than curve and point up toward the ends.

Also most of the posters in either of those threads stated that the results were very lack luster at best.

The subject here is:  hmm..Can i grow a plant upside down..light on the ground?
And the answer is a simple yes.
Hell you can grow plants on the wall if you'd like, and can figure out a watering system.  I'm talking some cool ass spikes that looks like it'd kill you if the walls moved in on you.  You know some straight out of the raiders of the lost arks type of shit.:yesnod:
It's been done.

Is there down falls, most likely.
But where there's a will there is a way.

I think you're confusing indoors and outdoors a bit.
Meaning outdoors, you're imo 100% right, becayse you can't put the sun in the soil/ground.
Indoors however the sun is where you place it.

Read about gravitropism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravitropism

You can also find more about it on other sites, particularly sites involved with space research because of the experiments that they do in space.
