Has anyone done this before? I know they have those upsidedown tomatoes but they curve up and reach for the sun and i want to put the light on the ground faceing up so in theory it should reach down and my guess grow quicker due to gravity....idk give me some input here...lol

Lol no.
Also, as far as I know, roots drink from the bottom and prefer it to be airy near the top (hence why hempy grows work). Flipping it upside down would completely reverse that and probably stunt the growth it anything.
I could be mistaken.

it wouldnt cause it to stretch more? not having gravity pushing down on it but pulling it towards the ground. less stress on the plant because its working with gravity being upside down instead of against gravity...right?

Growing it upside down would force the plant to be a male sativa.

i used to know this guy that grew some dank weed, and claimed to grow it upside down. I never asked any questions though, because his weed was the best i've ever had. So sad he went to jail.

It can and has been done many times. The plants will grow to the light. Quicker no, and gravity has nothing to do with it.

Yeah sure, I guess that's why plants grow up and not down outside. If gravity was greater than light to a plant, then the fucker would ground across the grow and not raise upwards to the light.
Hell if you then to see proof of this grow any plant in a room start with light above it, for a week, then place the light on a wall or even the floor. Then watch what the plant has to say on the subject.

It wont work. The plant will begin to "right" itself. the stem will curve upward and you'll just be feeding the bottom of your leaves with light.
All plants contain certain hormones that effect growth. One of these is Gravitrophin (SP?). This Hormone causes decreased cell wall growth on sections it touches. Seeing as its allowed to freely flow through the cell membrane; it will all pile up along the "bottom" of the cell. This will cause one side of the wall to stretch more than the other. This happens over and over and over until your plant is facing the right direction.
The inverse effect happens on the roots when exposed to gravitrophin.
Edit: The effect is called Gravitropism; however, I still cant find the name of the hormone itself.

They will indeed grow to the light. Read these threads. It has and can be done. http://www.growery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/65591#65591 http://www.growery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/452187#452187

Eh, even if you can get the photo hormones to overpower the gravity based ones I don't seeing it being that hugely benificial. You're plants are still going to want to curve upward (even if they are growing toward the light). I just for see it being difficult to properlly implement.
I have a feeling a weed plant would do the same as a tomatoe in a "topsy turvey" pot. It will grow downward for 1/4 to 1/3 of its total height, than it will grow outward for some distance than curve and point up toward the ends.
Also most of the posters in either of those threads stated that the results were very lack luster at best.

The subject here is: hmm..Can i grow a plant upside down..light on the ground? And the answer is a simple yes. Hell you can grow plants on the wall if you'd like, and can figure out a watering system. I'm talking some cool ass spikes that looks like it'd kill you if the walls moved in on you. You know some straight out of the raiders of the lost arks type of shit. It's been done.
Is there down falls, most likely. But where there's a will there is a way.
I think you're confusing indoors and outdoors a bit. Meaning outdoors, you're imo 100% right, becayse you can't put the sun in the soil/ground. Indoors however the sun is where you place it.

Read about gravitropism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravitropism
You can also find more about it on other sites, particularly sites involved with space research because of the experiments that they do in space.

The only advantage I see for doing this would be a set up like this.
(Plants) \_/ \_/ \_/ | | | /|\ /|\ /|\
[ light ]
\|/ \|/ \|/ | | | \_/ \_/ \_/
(more plants) (Eh, the diagram didn't carry over as well as I'd have liked)
But even still your plants (and every picture I've seen of people doing this as well as every article, plus years of reserch by darwin and various other scientist) are going to want to try and curve up. Primarily your lower branches will do this (upper in this case) .
Heres an image of just what I'm talking about. The lower (upper) branches are curving upwards. And in order for him to actually get it to grow downward required dangling a chain from it.
I'm not saying its impossible, especially if you can find clinostat, and you're right especially for the main stem, but all your auxilery branches/leaves will turn upward.

Well at least now you finally admit it is possible. In your earlier post you said, "It won't work", which was incorrect. That's all I'm saying is it can and will work, it may take some work to maintain but so does any type of growing.
Just so you know I'm not a fan of this method, nor would I try it. On just this fact alone, growing upside down puts the light under the plants, which mean drain or a leak could result imo a unnecessary fire hazard.

The idea of growing a plant upside down sounds cool, but I think it would be about as exciting as growing something in a hanging planter.

Plants aren't meant to grow upside down, so is there some science reason that this would have any benefits whatsoever? I see people swear upside down tomatoes work, but i just don't get it. Plants should be grown as close to their natural conditions as possible, with proper nutrition as well.
