How would you manicure that?

How would you manicure a piece looking like this? What would be important to remove and what not? Would cutting with scissors cause much trichomes breakage and loss or failure on proper curing?

Manicure as normal I suppose, if you manicure while fresh you don't have to worry about trichomes falling off, only about how you'll get the hash off you're scissors.

Even if dry, the more you trim off, the more potent the bud is...in my opinion.

I like to hold the bud in my hand, and trim whats off on the right side.
For example, hold out your index finger so you're looking at the knuckle/fingernail. Pretend there are leafs sticking out of it. Anything growing out of the side of your "finger" gets snipped (the part you see when you make a fist). Rotate, repeat, continue.
Once I get that off, I go back through and snip anything that looks too large.

Does leaving the leaves on make a bud go moldy or go wrong? What if only the stem or part of the stem (petiole) is left on? How long would it have to be left in open air before closing it in a vessel?

Eeh no leaves are made of pretty much the same stuff as buds, they dont usually rot. However, buds are more potent by weight, so the bigger the bud:leaf ratio, the more potent the final product. Dry it in a dark place w/ a fan on untill the stems snap. Then they go in jars for about a month (depends on how much you care about smell/taste)
Your bud will rot if the airflow in the drying space is not good enouph (rh needs to stay low), or if you leave the buds in the jar for too long durring the first 2 weeks of curing. Open it every day for about 10 min, mix the buds around.

If you're not selling it and you don't mind smoking leaves then who cares? It'll just make your joints fatter.

Well it ruins the taste a little + why not make some hashish?
Honestly, I just think a bud looks way better well trimmed:)...little clusters of fuzz *.* I do know people who love leafy weed, but they don't grow, so its mostly cuz leaves look cool to them.

Just trim what ever isn't frosted up with tricomes. Unless of course you have a lot more than that to trim up. Then I'd do a thorough trim and make some bubble hash/edibles.
I made a big batch of cannabutter the other day. I love the potency of edibles........

I usually go around snipping off the biggest leaves at the stem, then the smaller ones that are easily accessible. Once that's done, if I feel it needs a bit more I'll just hold my scissors flat to the bud, but ~an inch from it just cutting off anything that goes past the blades

The reason I'm really anal about trimming is because I find that leafs make the smoke a lot more harsh. They burn too quick and don't hold a cherry in the bowl, they just burn and make really thick smoke that chokes me.

it might be deep bullshit but... (by weight) if i pull the roots of the plant the material would be more potent if i took it off the stalk it would then be more potent if i took all the fan leaves off it would then be more potent if i pulled out all the stems it would then be more potent if i manicured a significant amount of sugar leaves i believe it by weight would be more potent. if i took those sugar leaves made BHO and put it on my manicured buds it would sure as hell be more potent
i just remember hearing that the pot from the 60's/70's had its thc measured by the whole plants weight and now we only measure the thc of manicured buds.
so he kinda has a point. the more you take off the more potent i guess not but it kinda make sense\im really high

I think he just meant more THC per unit mass of weed in your joint. In which case, he's correct.

Haha are you guys sirious?? I specifically said "in my opinion" lol. Unless you know my opinion better then I do, thats not bullshit:) Plus, like harryba11sach said, it becomes more potent by weight...

But you didn't phrase it in a way which indicated that you mean by volume. You wrote it in such a way that made it sound if you trim more off the bud itself increases in potency. We want to make sure that someone reading this isn't confused by your statement.

I said this BEFORE you flamed me. The second sentence says it all. I understand if you were lazy/ at the time or just didnt see it before, but asking me to specify seems more reasonable then stating that what I said is bullshit. So yeah, its actually you who didn't phrase it right.

Thanks everybody for the replies. So from what I see trimming is more of a concentrating trichomes density (mass/volume) and give an improved look than storage improvement.
How long would it keep a properly dried and cured bud (but not trimmed, or just slightly trimmed) piece stored in an airtight container?

I don't think anybody mentioned it, but you want to dry the buds over a period of about 5-14 days. You just don't want to take so long that mold/bud rot develops. A relative humidity of about 50% is good. Below 45% and the buds will get crispy too fast. Above 60% and you risk bad things. You also don't want fans DIRECTLY blowing on the drying buds, just air circulation throughout the room.
The slower it dries the more chlorophyll and plant sugars break down. Those things, aside from the fibers, account for a bad taste in the smoke. Sugar tastes like burnt carbon and idk what chlorophyll tastes like burned, but I think it's not the deliciousness of all those lovely terpenes that supply the amazingly varied profiles of smell and taste that make this plant a wonderful pleasure to smoke.
Keeping leaves on can slow the rate at which the buds dry if you are unable to keep the RH high enough.
Once properly dried, after burping your airtight container daily for at least a week, the buds will be good for a long time. Kept in the complete dark, maybe up to 9 months before the trichomes would start breaking down (idk, never stored buds that long), oxidizing the THC into other cannabinoids. After about 1 month, however, they will be at their peak smell/taste.

To: double As you should know, some weed can be described as "fluffy" which is usually on the leafy side or "dense" which typically looks like a cola with few noticeable leafs. All in all its weed but most people prefer dense nugs over fluffy nugs.
Therefore, if your weed didn't come out very dense then leave it a little leafy.

So after 9 months would it lose potency and just make a herbarium specimen? If so, how to make THC store indefinitely? Maybe extracting it with a solvent and evaporating?
Would a herbarium specimen store indefinitely or should it be fixed in formaldehyde?

I smoked weed I found in a drawer in a plastic bag from probably 30 years ago and still got high. It will break down, but not to the point of being ruined.

Keeping it in a dark airtight (perferably glass) container should help as well.
-------------------- In order to grow good weed you need to be part carpenter, electrician, plumber, biologist, geneticist, chemist, and very willing to get dirty.
I've been working with power tools since I was 8, my dad is an electrical engineer who owned a 280 gal fish tank, and I studied biology with a specialty in genetics. Getting dirty comes naturally. I think my parents inadvertently trained me to be a weed grower.
