What do you think of this wardrobe for a grow?

Hey everybody
Since deciding not to get a grow tent to save money, I have decided to use my wardrobe instead. I'm using 400w HPS, is it too big for this closet?
The space below the top shelf is the area i've been thinking about doing the grow in. The specs of the area below the shelf is 3ft10 wide x 2ft2 deep x 5ft2 tall. I'm gonna tape some mylar film to all walls and floors, will put a vent on the lower part of one door, and will have exhaust fan and carbon scrubber venting into a hole in the wall. Lights will be hanging with chains from the bar used to hang clothes.
What size should my intake vent be. Also, what rating fan do I need. Will a 250cfm be enough, or do i need something bigger? I can't figure out the formula lol
Do I need to seal it off from the area above the shelf? I don't plan to keep anything up there during the grow but when the doors of the wardrobe are closed, there is a 2.5inch gap between the shelf and the door.
Any idea's how i can close this gap? I was thinking of using a can of expandafoam, but that tends to get messy.
And how many plants do you think I can grow efficiently with this setup?
Cheers Magickz
Please feel free to give me advice, comments, ideas etc
Cheers Magickz

also, the walls may look white, but they are not. They have like a peachy/pinky pastel tone Can I get away with those wall bare? Or should i cover with mylar? How much do you think it would affect my yeild?

I'm not sure if you'll need a cooltube or not in there since I've never ran a 400w. You might be ok with fans? not too sure...
Mylar might do good in there, your yield will probably be more affected by the temperatures in there than anything.
I've seen 1000 watt in a slightly bigger closet but it was cooltubed so i know these things are possible

400w seems like it would be ample and mylar would help but it's not necessary as you don't have but so much room. I'd still suggest a fan though, both for circulation and venting the heat. Unless it's around freezing there your temps are going to get pretty high.

to close that gap you may be able to use some thick weatherstripping. or a few layers of weatherstripping if you can't find anything thick enough.

I forgot to mention, are you using clones or seeds?
The amount of plants you end up putting in there depends on your techniques, veg time, genetics and whether you'll end up with males or not.
1 Plant could fill that up if you veg long enough and are concerned about plant #'s.

Would a bigger/more powerful exhaust fan help? I dont mind keeping the doors open, but i would rather have them closed to contain the smell. The wardrobe is way bigger than the growtent setup the hydroshop was trying to sell me (0.8mx0.45mx0.8). Wardrobe is 1.1m x 0.66m x 1.54m. It seems alot bigger to the setup he said could work with my lights, i dont get it, lols
I will have an intake vent at the bottom corner of one of the doors, and exhaust/carbon filter in the opposite top corner, venting into a hole in the wall. What cfm rating exhaust fan should I get for this setup? I've seen growboxes much smaller than this with 400w, there has to be some way....

I've just been to the hydro shop. Gave the guy my specs and he told me that I shouldn't have any problems as long as I had good air circulation. Anyways, I ended up buying a 150MM EZI AIR CENTRIFUGAL FAN. He said I could get away with using a 125mm, but the 150 would do the job very well.
I'm gonna have that venting into a hole in the back wall of the wardrobe, and then I'm gonna get a carbon filter to go over it, in a fortnight when i can afford it. Also got some film on its way. They didnt have any mylar film left, but are sending me diamond foil instead. They tell me its better than the mylar
My only dillema now is: What size intake vent should I attach to the doors?
Looks like I will have my wardrobe up and running by some time tomorrow. In the meantime, I've planted the germinating seeds into pots, and I've got them sitting outside in the sun.

OK guys, I need some help Knowing nothing about grows, I thought all I would have to do is cut a hole in the wall, then screw the fan into the wall over the hole.
So I took my 150mm centrifugal fan out of the box, and there are no anchor points for it. Besides, I don't think it would hold the weight even if it did.
So my question is: How is the best way to attach this mofo fan? Since I'll be using the area under the shelf and sealing it off, I was thinking I can cut a hole into the shelf and sit it up there with some ducting going to the ceiling. But that is much more work than I anticipated, lols Any idea's how I can fix it to a wall as I had first planned? I called the hydro shop where I got the fan, and he said they only sell kits to attach it to ducting which then goes into the wall.

Also in the box were 2 metal brackets and 4 screws. I have no idea where they go or how they are used.

If you go with anything higher than 250w HID I'd reccomend removing that shelf. Otherwise, use supplemental lighting and use the shelf to hold your fan and just run some ducting through it too your light and vent out a hole beside your fan. Those brackets are definately for mounting the fan, but I'm trying to figure out if you could just leave it sitting on top of the shelf with some ducting maybe running through the shelf (destructive, I know) and then vent it out through a whole in the wall, but I think your going to need a little more vertical grow space if you have a 400w in there. I'm not sure though, your best bet is to probably just keep playing/trying stuff until you find something that works well for you.

If I do end up removing the shelf, do you reckon the 150mm centrifugal fan will still be enough though? Because there is alot of extra room if I remove the shelf. The ceiling of it is much higher than the top of the doors, removing that shelf would give me an extra 83cm's in height.
Also, if I do remove the shelf, how/where would I install the centrifugal fan?
Another thing I was wondering, if I leave the shelf in, and sit the fan on top of the shelf with a duct going to the ceiling, what effect do you think it would have if I didn't seal the area above the shelf off.
Lols, sorry for all the questions. I didn't think installing a fan would be so complicated,

Lol but how? They are right angle brackets when there are no flat 90o angles on it? It's mind boggling, and the documentation it came with doesnt have instructions :/

I think I figured the brackets out lol. Weird design, screwing straight brackets onto a round surface

Now I'm just wondering if 4 screws would hold this fan into a gyprock wall...?

I place my fan on top of a carbon filter and left it sitting on the floor.
Problem with mounting the fan on the wall is the vibrations would drive me nuts.
id try to find a pace to just set it and mount the tube to the wall.
HOpe this makes sence im drunk as fuck.

lols, FUCK IT! The idea of growing into this wardrobe is just too much hassle. Instead of trying to fit my grow into the wardrobe, and doing damage to the house decreasing its value, I am just gonna build a grow box instead.
What size would you recommend for a 400w HPS with the 150mm centrifugal fan? Also, what wood can I use? I'm already way over budget, so the cheaper the wood is, the better. I figured I can go out and buy all the materials and put it together for under $50.
I hope so anyways. Cheers MagicKZ

Look into mylar tents. Theres some cheap ones out there, just make sure you don't get the white vinyl ones. You want the ones with mylar/shiny stuff on the inside as the white vinyl ones 'will' kill your plants. I've seen 4x4x7 foot tents go for $100 w/ shipping.

I've got one of those 4x4x7 tents, and I'll tell ya, other than the fact that it breaks down real easy into a box, I would WAY rather have a box made of plywood so that I can attach things to the walls and ceiling without worrying about ruining the thing! Lol
Make a nice 3x3 or 4x4 box out of plywood, man. If you're pretty handy with wood and tools, it'll make it WAY easier for ya. You can hook things up exactly the way you want it...
