 do edibles medicate as effectively for pain?

So, today I ate an edible, and about 30 minutes into it I pulled something in my back. Real bad pain, probably some of the worst I've ever felt. It hurts pretty bad to breathe actually.
Anyway, I felt bad pain through the high of my edible.
When I got home, the pain was still there, but my high had faded. I took 3 bong rips and immediately felt about 80% better.
I get much higher and for a longer time from edibles, but it didn't seem to help my pain at all. It does help any social anxiety I get though. The smoke on the other hand really helped the pain, and tends to leave me feeling more paranoid. It was probably different strains, but I'm wondering if different ways of consumption change the way the actives help your body?

A really strong edible will hit you after 30 mins to an hour and if it's really good you'll fall asleep.

Yeah, I know how they work and all. They usually take me about an hour, but probably because I rarely eat one before breakfast (an empty stomach probably gets the actives going faster.)
And I have some cookies I made that make me go to sleep  . They just completely end your day.

Apparently the high is more stoney with edibles therefore (at least the way I reason it) it should be more effective with pain but I have no personal experience with edibles and pain.

I find edibles to be more effective at numbing pain compared to smoking....Even the day after a strong edible my body feels all sorts of nice & fluid.

I think maybe my problem was that the pain came on during my edible high rather than me trying to treat it with the edible.
It sucked, it hurt so much it almost sobered me up
