Canna butter loss??

I have been cooking my cannabis in real sweet cream butter (with a little water) in a crock pot on low (150-200f) for 12-18 hours. I had read to cook it anywhere from 6-24 but to not go over 30, so I just split the difference.
I have noticed that once strained, cooled, condensed and measured again that I loose anywhere from 25-50% of the butter.
Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

Did you leave the lid on?

Why should that mean it isn't real?

Huh.
Then I dunno. Doesn't seem right to me. Maybe when you strain it a lot is staying on the plant material? I've never made butter in the normal way, so I'm probably the wrong person to be posting lol. All I could think of was the lid.

well i run some hot water over the weed to get all the butter out
I wonder how many people actually measure their butter before and after cooking?
this may be quite common but if no one ever checked no one would be aware of it
Thats why i asked

its normal for any kind of butter man. when you cook it even at a really low temperature the fats and oils from your butter separate which allows the excess water to evaporate. on top of that with the heat it also breaks down the fat a little bit as well. so 25% weight loss on your butter sounds normal to me. 50% seems a tad too much tho.
you get losses like that when cooking anything weed or no weed.

Ok, that's what I thought but wanted confirmation
When I make my canna butter I make just enough for a single batch of brownies so I always measure the butter before making the brownies to make sure the recipe is right.
That's how I noticed the loss.
Its no real big issue, I can always add more oil/butter to complete the recipe. I just wanted to make sure that a loss was normal, and I wasn't doing something wrong

hi there...fair warning: i am a bit of a dilettante myself, but i am not a stranger to the kitchen and its many tools and application(s) of same.
my first recommendation is to use a fine mesh wire strainer; you will need to press the material in order to squeeze out maximum liquid, so i suggest not cheaping out on the strainer--OXO is generally a well-made, often ergonomic tool manufacturer. cheese cloth is great, but it will absorb some of what you are trying to keep. cheese cloth will also frequently collapse into itself, making a mess you must deal with--not to mention the whole burning one's hands trying to twist the cloth tight enough to properly strain the material.
i start with more than one recipe's worth of material as well as butter/oil, that way i definitely have enough for whatever i may wish to prepare--Caesar dressing works nicely! or pesto sauce...
neophyte that i am, i hope i have not suggested something others more experienced have already denounced...

I may be five years late; but then maybe not: My limited experience with butter loss follows. I always weigh ingredients when I'm baking. My butter lost 32% from 227 to 154. Since my recipe calls for two sticks of butter, all I need to do is add 73 to make two sticks. I've already done this a couple times and my chocolate chip cookies are superlative. I can't take all the credit though; I use a top quality chocolate chip (like Ghirardelli) instead of a brand containing vanillin which is an artificial flavor. I also use Penzey's brand double strength vanilla and the best dark brown sugar I can find...using top notch ingredients makes all the difference: these cookies are indistinguishable from the plainos. Can somebody please direct me to dabbing?
