1) What is the optimum pH level for hydroponically grown plants (using about 6.0 right now)? 2) I am finding that I have to check the pH every day to make sure it is maintained at the proper level, is this normal? 3) How often should the reservoir be changed? 4) Should I be adding more water to the reservoir before I change it? The water level seems to go down quite a bit at the end of the day.

Yup, tap water. I thought since it wasnt a problem with my last grow it wouldnt be this time, however, last time I grew in soil and pH seems to be almost the primary key to growing great hydro.
Is all distilled water the same pH? and if so what is it and about how much does it cost per-gallon at the store?
Also, I'm using a test tube and pH testing solution to test my pH, is a pH meter that is digital more reliable?
PH 5.8 to 6.2 some strain don't mind dipping lower. If the ph is changing daily then it's most likely an issue with your water. I alway recommend changing at least every two weeks, I myself change every week. And yes keep your res topped off between changing.
Some thing I always recommend to a hydro newb is to invest in an EC/PPM meter to help in maintaining proper nute levels.
