Why does everyone use square or rectangular grow rooms? An octagon would be best..
all 4 corners of a square get less light ,,rectangles are worse..
and you seem to get more area in an octagon.... i have a 2.25 sq FT room..same as 18" x 18" but it is an octagon 9" per side ..it is 23 inches wide or so i gotta measure again tomorrow..when 18x18 is 18 x 18 in the centers and 26 x 26 in the corners..

This has crossed my mind but when I'm building a box thats just 4 extra sides I have to deal with...Doesn't a square have more floor space than something like yours of the same size? I don't feel like doing any math but it would seem to me that the square would have more room.

Floor space is the same..Just a different shape..2.25 sq FT is 2.25 sq FT any shape it is..But the shape effects light refraction and diffusion..

Another reason i like the octagon is air flow..I have 1 fan mounted on the side and it blows air all the way around and back to itself creating a mini tornado in there..Without the square edged room the air just circulates around freely..I have a 80 cfm exhaust fan on top..8 1.25 " holes in the bottom and 1 40 cfm comp fan circulating the air..There's no places where there's any dead stale non moving air.

This is a good idea, I can see what mh is saying, a square with 5sq ft would be able to fit more pots than an octagon with the same floor space, simply because of its shape. But as somebody else looking for quality and not quantity I'm gonna give you 5leaves right now

It's not really feasible for big grows ..But for small grows it works good..You're right ,The amount of room for pots is smaller cause of the weird shape..But for me it's perfect i just grow 1 plant at a time , and this seems to work the best for equally distributing the light around the single plant..All together in the box i have 1 150W medium base HPS, and 4 26W CFL . 1 of those is a UVB -10 bulb..Around 20,000 lumens for 2.25 sq FT..

It's about light refraction and the direction of the bulb. Some bulbs are build for the horizontal position and others for vertical. I believe it's mentions in the Marijuana Bible that reflectors suited for the horizontal bulb have better refraction onto the plants. just draw vector arrows from the light to the walls and angled back to the plants. See what makes the most sense for your plan.

I'll throw an updated pic up tonight..Would do a grow log but i have a ton of unknown seeds..Would prefer to do one with a known strain..So if i ever do get a couple name seeds i'll do a log..Until then i'll keep growin my bagseed..lol

Mang, no one cares if its bagseed or if you paid $100 per bean. Its all about watchin the girl grow up and develop...
Speaking of which, your girl looks very nice. You're getting pretty decent internodal spacing despite using CFL's... better than my friend who uses them, at least... lol

Well it's been under a 150 hps for 2 weeks now 2..B4 that was all cfl and 8 4ft tubes..i'll see if i have a pic of that killer lil room..It was what inspired me to go octagon..

Now i wanna come up with a rotating base.. I would like the plant to slowly spin in the octagon..maybe 4 revolutions in 24 hrs..Right now i manually do a 1/4 turn every 6 hours..Anyone know of any adverse affects to a plant slowly spinning? And would direction matter at all .. Clockwise or counter clockwise?
