Fan is WAY to loud.

Alright right off the bat im sure im going to get the "search" speech but either im too slow in the head for that or im just not finding it. I got a 6inch squirrel vortex fan that is just insanely loud. I got it exhausting pulling from the filter up top through the 600w cool tube and out from there. What can I do to reduce the noise level so im not waking every neighbor in a 6 block radius? Thanks.

Get a bunch of towels and put them on the fan. Also I prefer inline fans to squirrel cage fans but thats just me.

New fan, something to dampen the noise like rubber mounting brackets(make sure its secure to keep it from shaking), a fan controller to run your fan to where it won't make so much noise but still move enough air.

I have mine clamped down to a rubber mat with towels tucked in and around it and it's pretty quiet.

Did the muffler thing myself. Least expensive.
Speed control is next but $'s.

i had the same poblem get a speed controller, you fan is probally pulling enough air you can turn down the speed some, don't recommend putting things on the fan that are not fire rated the towels could catch fire or get stuck in the fan and the control is only like 30$. Also if your over pulling air then your using your filter up faster then needed and the filter is the expensive part.

I just hang mine with bungee cords You still hear it but not nearly as bad. It's the cheapest and easiest to do and it works pretty well if you are hanging it from something that is SECURE and not shaky.

Its not the humming of the vibrations, its the actual air moving. I think im going to build a box and fill it fiberglass insulation (ugh i hate that crap) hook up more ducting to a muffler of sort.... up it to like 3ft section of 10inch solid ducting with holes drilled in it. IDK wish me luck on this =) thanks for all the help once again you guys rock!

I currently own this fan (active air inline fan) http://www.texashydroponics.com/shop/product.php?productid=2926&cat=76&page=1
Will a vortex, seen below, in a side by side comparison run quieter? http://www.texashydroponics.com/shop/product.php?productid=2194&cat=76&page=1
I have a speed controller and run the Active Air fan at the lowest setting. Noise it not really and issue, but thing's can always be quieter.
