I have now seen three billboards stating that May 21, 2011 is the impending Judgement Day, and October 21, 2011 is the actual Rapture. The thing that breaks my heart most is that its a group of Christians who thought of this, stamping us fellow Christians with ANOTHER crazy sticker. Its not fair, but whoever said life was fair lol... ..its stuff like this that makes me wish BigBudz was still around

You're really shouldn't flaunt being a sinning non-believer. Just sayin
-------------------- Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Is a 16 year old guy having sex w/a 16 year old girl a pedophile?
If not, then how is a 30 year old considered a pedophile for doing the same thing?
I think y'all need to look up the definition for pedophile.

Billboards? Wow, that's insane.
Edit:
From ebiblefellowship.com:
Quote:
On May 21st, Judgment Day will begin and the rapture (the taking up into heaven of God’s elect people) will occur at the end of the 23-year great tribulation. On October 21st, the world will be destroyed by fire (7000 years from the flood; 13,023 years from creation).

It's so crazy to me that people can actually believe such things so contrary to logic, reasoning, and things they've actually seen in real life.. I'm almost bummed that I'm not in America to see what all them crazy Christians are up to..
The craziest part of this whole thing is that almost no one will come to question their religion when nothing happens.. They'll just brush it off with some bullshit like it's God's Will that made them look like idiots and move on..

Well apparently he is even more unaware of true christian docterene even more than I was already aware of.
Maybe I should also mention that religion is anout faith; it isn't about proof. So for any of the people in this thread trying to just do the generic "hey im an athiest, why are you christians so stupid arguement" I'm going to just define faith here.

That's the best part. I realize that I don't know anything in the grand scheme of things. That is what separates us.
But faith is a very circular argument. Faith in God is justified by faith in God. In order to accept the argument you must already have accepted it.

Then you probably shouldn't critique people about something you know nothing about. Do you have any proof there is no god? Do you have any proof at all? no.
In fact all the proof that exists at all (not that i give a shit about it) is pretty much on the side of religion.
So maybe you should realize since you don't know anything, you shouldn't criticize people that choose to believe in something else. It's not interrupting your day at all, so continue disrespecting something i have faith in. I'll be over here being polite and respecting what you have faith in you asshole.

The Bible is equal in all peoples interpretations, so just because one mans interpretation of the bible seems crazy to you, it makes it no less ridiculous than any interpretation anyone else may draw from it.
This perfectly highlights the absurdity in staking any kind of faith in the words of an archaic roman story book.

Well there's a difference between withholding judgement about God and saying one is a christian. I respect everyone's faith it's just hard to understand commitment to one faith over the other when you study all the world religions.
I can't speak for the OP but I think it's this that most atheists critique. And there's nothing wrong with critiquing this. There's also nothing wrong with critiquing and debating the way in which God operates.
Critiquing if God, an entity who created the universe, exists is a moot point however and is purely argued on faith without observation. But everything else following that creation is fair game imo.

well considering the bible specifically says that nobody will know.
I'm going to go with the fact anyone claiming to know the time of the christian end of times is going to be full of this.
This is not interpretation, this is reading comprehension.

I just thought it was worth pointing out that just because you define faith and connect it to religion, it clear that having faith in something, however strong, does not force it to be true, or even lend credibility to the concept.

there is more proof that we are "created" by evolution than by a god, and if there WAS a god, he would also have to arise from natural selection and millions of years of slow gradual mutations, but even then, that "god" would have to be from a race of "gods" and then he wouldnt be a "god" would he..
if god made us, who made god?
also, nothing is timeless in the universe everything must obey the laws of physics and science in some way, and the idea of a "god" blatantly disregards science by saying he "emerged from nowhere, but was always there"
and IN FACT, THE BIBLE IS NOT A SOURCE OF EVIDENCE and this has been proven many times, the amount of times the book contradicts itself is baffling
you seem to be arguing for the sake of arguing without an actual sound argument

Merriam Webster definition: ig·no·rance noun \ˈig-n(ə-)rən(t)s\ the state or fact of being ignorant : lack of knowledge, education, or awareness.
Here are some synonyms: benightedness, cluelessness, incognizance, innocence, nescience, obliviousness, unawareness, unfamiliarity.

yea religious nuts will only believe in their religion when its suiting to them, if it makes them look crazy then they won't
yet with science you can always say you believe it because there is evidence to support it, and you don't have to feel the slightest bit insane for that
in short, I hate religion, its a tool of manipulative control of millions
I dont want you to want me to respect your faith, I want you to look at the evidence and think for yourself, fuck indoctrination , because that is , after all, why almost every single religious person is religious, apart from those genuine "religious experiences" that cause people to just change there way of life, WHICH DOES NOT IMPLY THERE IS A GOD, it merely implies that the brain is a powerful tool and can be susceptible to many different things,

Faith is not a natural thing. It is man made fantasy. When homo erectus was walking among our first ancestors blindly following something that they couldn't see was not going to help them survive. But following their natural and god given talents (excuse the pun) I.E. their senses, helped them to survive and avoid dangers that they could see, hear, feel, or smell.

Whatever guys, most of the things you guys are bringing up i've already answered inside this thread or are just you guys trying to troll me so im going to go smoke weed.
You guys have fun continuing to judge me over my faith while i respect yours. a point I have made multiple times within this thread.
The fact that you guys can't just respect my beliefs really says a lot about your mentality.
Were i a lesser man i'd accuse you of trolling me. Because you guys are very much blatantly insulting my beliefs while I am being very civil with respect to your own.

the difference between god creating the universe ( no evidence) and the big bang theory ( a scientific theory with supporting evidence that has been tested by thousands of scientists)
is the amount of evidence,
I dont cae what religion you are, its because you were indoctrinated that you are that religion anyways, if you were born in iraq you'd be a muslim, it makes no difference to me
look at the evidence, you dont need religion in life, and praying to an imaginary beign wont help you at all, its a bleak outlook
but you cherish your time here more by NOT believing in an after life, with god you take your time here for granted because you EXPECT an afterlife..
Either way, even if it all comes down to that, Id rather be appreciative of my time here, since its so infinitesimally unlikely to have occured rather than beleive Ill get so lucky after I die

WEll harlz, why don't you take the time to explain how it is directly contrary to science? Like explain it please. Because I know you are going to get it wrong.
By the way, how about you explain the big bang. What caused it? Why did it happen? What caused the causes that made it happen?
How do we know god didn't cause the big bang? These are all perfectly reasonable questions.

I could attempt to explain how god contradicts science in all the ways that he does in its entirety but Im sure it won't change your blind perspective, the difference between me and you is Ive considered both sides of the argument equally, and I beleive in the insurmoutnable evidence
you wont even attempt to do so, So I wouldnt waste my time, but Im sure some famous atheists such as richard dawkins could do a much better job than I
But the biggest contradiction is "god is timeless, hes always been there" UTTERLY IMPOSSIBLE BY SCIENCE
secondly.. who made god? what made god? why made god? if god made us, and well all have a purpose for his divine plan, who made him, whats his purpose, what divine plan does he fit into? Is he a middleman god to us from the REAL GOD? its all ridiculous,
but again, watch some dawkins, consider both sides of the argument
I can't explain the big bang, I know almost nothing about it, I DO KNOW its a theory, and a theory has been tested by scientists who are extremely knowledgable on the subject, yet the bible is impervious to being tested by science because it would fall apart faster than a 3 $ watch
We assume god didnt cause the big bang because of the above reasons
but again, research and an open mind will convince you more than I will

It explains it pretty clearly.
Me using those words don't mean I don't respect your beliefs.
They mean I don't respect you telling me my own beliefs are wrong.
That's not disrespecting your beliefs.
Case closed.

You realize I'm going to college to be a chemistry/physics teacher right? And you realize plenty of chemists and physicists are christian?
I'm glad you decided to not explain something you so obviously know.

These kind of debates are pretty much useless, not really worth bothering with unless you actually think there's a chance the other person will be open minded about it.

I am open minded, that's why im ok with with them not beleiving in the same thing.
Way to assume the people telling me my religion is wrong are open minded.
However, yea if they would just accept the fact i beleive in god and they don't.
Harlz and smurf are pretty obviously the close minded ones in this thread.

Religion and Science can not exist together forever. God only exists within the gaps science can not yet test.
I find the scientific explanation much more interesting and relevant than any fantastical bible story.

the scientific explanation is far more beautiful, and in my opinion its a long time before religion is gone, religion has always just explained what science couldnt understand, as it still does,
ancient civilizations used to believe plagues were caused by gods, when they were really caused by bacterium and virus' which we can explain today with science, its no different today, only we have way fewer gaps and even the few gaps there are , we now know it isnt logical to assume a "god" is causing them
its basic elementary science, and some may bring up, "the bible teaches good morals, values etc religion is good blah blah" yet these morals and values can be taught without the fear of punishment after death, which is completely wrong, and evil..
a world without religion would be a much more peacfeful world
im high

Religion! Where to start?
How bout I don't! But I will say, religious or athiest, I can not stand a person who seems to try to force their belief onto another. Who knows what to think about religion? I have been on both sides of the fence actually. Neither one is proven fact.
But I am pretty sure we all have our opinion on this subject and all believe in something. Btw, the big bang "theory" so far is just that, a theory! Not a fact. But since u all like definitions here,........
the·o·ry -noun, plural -ries 1. group of propositions used as principles to explain a class of phenomena 2. proposed explanation 3. the branch of a field of knowledge that deals with its principles rather than its practice. From dictionary.com

that would be a more fitting question, children at that age don't believe one way or another because they aren't capable of critical thinking at that age,

I was never once uncivil, I wasn't trolling, I have a strong opinion on the subject and I believe it! and evidence, I don't see a need for religion AT ALL.
also what I am doing is not the same, I say look at the evidence think critically,
he says, deny evidence, we are right, they are wrong... exact opposite of what I am doing, exact opposite of critical thinking

I was having an honest debate with you, and I did read your posts unfortunately
you said you're pretty sure your religion accepts it, I said, IF your church denies it I am ashamed, my comprehension seems to be on par
Im pathetic because I have an open mind and accept science and fact? while you cower in fear from the possibility that god might not exist?
you yourself said its some sort of coping mechanism, you must be weak of mind to need to depend on a god to explain your existence
as to whether you could kick my ass, thats another story entirely, and this is the internet bro, don't take it so seriously, you could end up like tubtonik

Actually i accept science.
To bad no scientific fact has ever directly disproved the existence of god.
And if one has how about you mention it, and describe in detail how it disproves it.
Otherwise you're just talking shit you know nothing about.
I wasn't trying to make you believe in god, im trying to make you guys stop bitching just because i believe something else. It's like you can't accept I genuinely just don't care what you believe. Just as much as nothing in the world can change me from believing it.
I already asked you to tell me specifically what disproved the existence of god and you failed to say it.
So you're clearly not that serious about it.

Evolution;
this theory states that natural selection, milliosn of years of mutations and extreme luck created all life on earth, not a magical bearded man who was bored,
So if religion tells us god made everyone, and science tells us, with evidence , facts and more evidence that that is not the case, and rather natural selection is the case, this thereby disproves the bible, and the existence of god during your creation, (apart from the piggybacking evolution theory)
the end
supporting materials
Im like richard dawkins here, and you are like the female creationist, I show you evidence , and you tell me to show you the evidence,
its obvious now to me you will never understand, I tried though
