My first grow.

So this is my first attempt at growing and I don't really know what I'm doing.
I started with about a dozen seeds around a week ago. I'm familiar with starting plants from seeds for gardening.
I've been planting them in potting soil inside of small disposable paper cups. I figure these would make planting easier since I can just leave them in the cups.
I planted them very low in the cup to leave room to fill in more dirt as they grow. I've heard they're like tomatoes and you can bury them up to the first set of leaves to give them more support.
My property backs up to about 10000 acres of woods that's only used for hunters once or twice a year.
The plan is to plant each plant in a separate location to avoid discovery.
I'm pretty sure I want full sun exposures which means southern faces hills or along the sides of open grassy areas.
I have a big pile of horse manure from last summer, some compost and bottle of fertilizer I can use for this project.
It'll be about 3 more weeks till the last frost here. Should I go out now and start preparing my spots or is it sufficient to prepare it right before I plant?
Thanks in advance for any tips, advice or information ;-D

If you are amending your soil with fertilizer and manure I would do it a month or so prior. This way the soil has a chance to adjust to the new nutrients and will give you a better pH reading.
I also would recommend checking to see how well your soil can drain.

They look good and healthy. Just be sure to keep your lights close so they stay short at this period of time. Once it gets to be nicer weather out put them outdoors. (when its going to be atleast 65 degrees out and never colder)

They're being kept in a windowsill facing south and doing pretty well from what I can tell. About twice the size they were in the last pictures.
Is there a thread/guide somewhere that shows when to transplant outdoors based on hardiness zone? Temps are still pretty cool here. Low tonight is gonna be 38f :/

I am not sure how accurate this is but it is unique because you can get the last frost date in accordance to your zip code.
Otherwise Google "last frost date" in __________ city.
You should start a Journal if you plan on growing these all the way out...

Thanks that link was helpful. Looks like I have to wait another 2.5 weeks until planting. These things are going to be a foot tall by then.

I ended up planting upwards of 20 plants in groups of 1-3 scattered around in the wilderness.
I went back to check on them after about a month. We had lots of rain so watering wasn't an issue.
Animals had dug up all but 2 of my plants. They didn't eat the plant, I found their dead, shriveled remains next to the holes :/
I checked the two plants about a month ago and they were both waist high, but I have not been back out to look yet.
