Anybody play ukulele?

I've wanted one for a long time and after playing my ex girlfriend's (which she never uses ) I just can't get it out of my head. Finally ordered this guy the other day:
for $99, but it's on back order so I'm till itching to get it in my hands. I play guitar and there's just so many times when my fingers start aching to touch some strings but I'm multitasking and grabbing a guitar isn't always optional whereas a little uke might be.
Any else of you out there play?

I don't.
But I would totally pay you in beer and buds to come play that while I was chilling on the beach.
-------------------- Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

I play a little mandolin...... not a uke but it is a small stringed instrument.

Why didn't you just ask to buy it from her for a discount since she doesn't use it?

I'd pay him to play while I bask under my lights with the wife holding my straw in the margarita to let me sip.

(I don't play lefty.... the image is reversed from my webcam)
I've been teaching myself ukulele for about year and a half. Bought one for myself Christmas 2009. I love it and my wife doesn't mind me practicing all the time either. They're super portable which makes them great for taking to the beach, the park, a concert, any sort of gathering of kind souls, etc.
I've never even picked up a guitar before buying an uke so it's been a great learning experience for me.
This guy has been very helpful in teaching me basic chords, strums, & songs: http://www.youtube.com/user/MusicTeacher2010
He's pretty cheesy, but he has simple arrangements of lots of well-known songs.
Here's a site with a lot of tabs for uke: http://www.alligatorboogaloo.com/uke/tabs.html
btw- in case you didn't know..... it should be prounced: "oo-koo-lay-lay" not "you-kuh-lay-lay"
aloha!

A housemate one year taught himself the banjo -- it drove me absolutely crazy! There was no place in the house where you could escape the twang when he practiced.

Banjo is LOUD especially a resonator played by a bluegrass picker. Love it.

If only you mentioned it sooner, I would've let you take home my uke when you came to visit, to compensate for the guitar you left behind.

She just got out of the mental institution a few days ago and I'm kind of trying not to talk to her.

Thanks a lot for those links man. I learned a couple chords and made up a couple quick little tunes when I first picked one up, but apparently my strumming technique is wrong since I'm used to playing with a guitar. Gotta learn to strum with the forefinger but it just feels weird.

yeah, never thought about it. Is it of any quality? Why don't you use it more often yourself?

Daaaamn, did she get institutionalized as a result from the lake/cop incident?
This thread inspired me to play again. I already learned a song from a while back, but the strings are stubborn when it comes to staying in tune.

Try tightening the tuning pegs with a screwdriver, that will help keep it in tune.

you know what i did in english class? It's really neither. Just a different technique than you would use on an acoustic guitar.
