I'd still rather have my identity stolen than pay for XBL.

Im also a victim of sony's fuckup but you overreacted, just watching your bank account for suspicious charges is good enough, which you should be doing anyway...
Most people don't realize the risk of CC theft when using your card in daily life is just as big of a risk as using it online. Every time you hand your credit card to a waiter at a restaurant, a gas station clerk, etc you are risking your card info being stolen. Assholes have handheld card skimmers that can get your CC info without you really noticing, this happens all the time.
Also your card info is routinely stored on unsecured systems and transferred through unsecured networks, you're a lot more vulnerable than you think.
My reason for not owning a credit card, and never intending to buy one.
you just threw your fanatical argument out then window then, i suppose.
X-box can suck my left nut, indefinitely, until it doesn't charge me to use X-box Live and they make a better upscaled system.
Mircrosoft can also suck on my left nut too, altogether.
Sony fucked-up by having a random person HACK their system?
Mircrosoft doesn't store their data that you give them and you are safe with them, right?!1 DURP! SURE!1

Yeah, he kind of missed the point...
The real failure here is that no one thought it was necessary to add another layer of security on peoples personal and financial information. Kind of a big fuck-up.

I suppose that's just one of the flaws of the PSN. Since they provide a relatively free service, it's understood that it has some weaknesses in terms of security, they probably run off an internet server (or something like it) whereas xbox live probably runs on a completely independent server. I am interested to see how this will turn out though.

I can't help but feel this is partly in retaliation to Sony suing this guy...

What?
Also, I heard from a friend its because they put some new encryption in movie theater speakers in movies with Sony Digital Sound. When you try to record them on a cam to pirate movies, it says "THIS IS SONY LOL U FAIL" or something along those lines.
IDK how true it is. I didn't read into it, because I'm sure its just some bullshit I don't care about anyway.

What fanatical argument?
Smooth move being all pissy in TSL though, it's more flaming than I'm willing to do in here.

Dude you're very nice for saying kinda of a big fuck up. This is a MASSIVE FUCK UP. The number one priority of any company that houses sensitive info such as financial records, in this case credit card info and such. Is protection of that data. Various companies small or big are constantly under attack by hackers.
The sad part about this whole situation is that it's 2011. And the fact that a company as big as Sony was successfully attacked is ridiculously embarrassing. I sure as hell hope they fired who ever was the senior officer for their IT security. I don't think there's a face palm out there that can illustrate how bad Sony fucked up.

It doesn't really make sense, how a company their size would drop the ball on this, there had to have been at least one person who said something

Yes their entire executive IT staff should be fired immediately, Sony is so big it has more than enough resources to hire outside security firms to audit their networks and such, it should be bulletproof.
I wonder if this hack has anything to do with Sony trying to sue the hacker who cracked their console
Even after all this bullshit, PS3 is superior because of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_(microprocessor)

Yeah I know it's been posted before, but every time I see one of those college commercials I think of that.
