outdoor veg light + high temps question
    #549642 - 04/23/11 03:41 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

hi ya,

how many lux would a plant need outdoors during veg. considering a 60% RH and 95°F?

would it be better to just have filtered sun? what's your opinion?

I can't think of many practical uses of a light outdoors, unless you wanted to run it at night.

I was talking about measuring how much light intensity they should receive from the sun, not adding lights  like how much sun/shade would they need/tolerate given that full sun all day long would fry them for good.

would something intense like a cloudy sky all day long and at these parameters (60%RH, 95+°F) hurt?

No, it wouldn't hurt.  But I've seen some good results with tinted mesh.

what would be the minimum/threshold amount of natural light intensity they'd stand then?

I imagine something that applies a good amount of shade while allowing sufficient light to pass through would work fine.  The sun doesn't heat like lamps, it's more ambient.  If you happen to go to a hardware store, just say you have a garden of tomatoes and you want to buy some netting to keep the birds and bugs out.  Tomatoes are very similar to MJ.

I'd think too much shade is the main concern rather than too much light, it'd stunt growth or make them stretchy

You can buy UV protectant film/mesh.  After all, you are worried about burning.  I'd look into a greenhouse, there are some pretty nice ones (6'x'8 of hardened plastic/glass) on the internet.  You could easily fit a good amount of plants in one.  Maybe look into outdoor grow tents.

I don't think they will want a plastic green house.  If anything they can have a plastic roof with mesh walls since a plastic green house would probably do more damage than good in their hot climate.

I believe a 30% shade cloth would be best for you.  But I do not use shade cloth, I find natural shading that occurs mid-day.
