Bulb rattling sound

Aside from the normal hum you hear from the ballast starting up, I just noticed that the bulb itself is making a rattling sound. You know how it sounds when you pick it up and move it?
Sorta like that.
Now, the ballast JUST turned on, so the bulb is pretty cold. It started out doing it quite bit, now its stopping and starting as it warms up.
Is this normal?
-------------------- Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

Its pretty normal when the air temp is cooler, my bulbs do it all the time. I think its just the metal and glass expanding as they warm up. If you're still concerned, check on it right when it turns off for the night, mine usually make weird pinging and tapping noises for about 20min.

Good advice. The other thing I was thinking of was that you could be picking up a vibration that starts someplace else (like a fan).

Yeah, mine makes that same creaking sound.
OK, cool. I'm glad its nothing to worry about
And I don't think its the fan, because thats not on the timer, its just on 24/7. Good call though.

depends on your bulb I guess. I've had lights which rattled when they were poorly cabled dunno about which rattling are you referring to though, it light is steady and it does not emit sparks then nothing to worry about
