if its a $7.00 lamp timer from wallmart its may cause you problems in the future if you are really growing cannabis .. These timers are made for a few lamps. not 1k Hps lamps ect.. If you want a real timer got to home depot and get a pool timer/ they are made of metal and have better switches.
This wallmart timer may slip from time to time/ the pegs on it are not perfect. one day the lamp is to be on and isnt .. youll see the green peg slipped over the switch ..
If your timer has a face on it.. green peg on 12am, Lamp off at 6Pm ... this is 18hrs.. green peg on 12am red on 12pm this is 12hrs.
My timers look the same. Just push down 18hrs worth of pegs and your set.

cheesy timers like those are really only good for small pumps or fans. If you need to make a better timer system while using them get a relay and use the timer to power the relay to turn on the lights.
