comp. fan ac/dc question?

hey i got a computer fan here i know you can wire it up to a charger of some sort(ad to dc) but what if the volt arent equal?
fan needs 12v dc
charger says 120vac to dc 5.5v

so will the fan just run at half speed?
any help would greatly be appreciated

Yeah it will work fine but at a much lower speed

too low of a voltage may kill the fan but 5.5 should be straight

try find a charger for something thats 12v unless you have noise constraints, they can get a little loud depending on what you have

BTW you should check which wire is ground and which is the 12v, i dont know if the fan will short out or just spin backwards if you switch it

BTW to check without a multimeter you can touch something metal and the wire that stings when you lick it is the 12v :lol:

BTW i was plannin on running 2 fans off one charger one 80mm and one 120mm will that cut the speed again?

sorry more of a carpenter than an electrition

It depends on the power source you are using and the way you connect it.
Probably any power source will be enough to handle the 2 fans with no problem. To do so, you need to connect the positive side of each fan to the positive side on the charger, and the same with the negative side to the negative of the charger
