I use to make mead. I loved adding fruit to it, I made a bach one time where I added more watermelon then other fruit and it gave it an amazing taste of liquorish. Then there was the blueberry mead, apple and pears. It takes a while for mead to finish fermenting though. I do not remember exactly how long, I think it was 3-4 months maybe longer.
I just used yeast. It was an active yeast, so All you had to do is mix it into warm water, let sit and let the yeast wake up and then you are good to go. If you are going to get heavy into mead making then why not use the energizer etc. But if it is just for hobby, or every so often then I see no need for it imo. But I'm sure it would aid in better fermenting...
"using orange blossom honey and an orange in the brew" Sounds good, Can't wait to hear how it turns out.
