Many of the PVC ones kill your plants, they release volatile odors, and the plants freak and die.
Get canvas with the mottled reflective surface.

Yeah very Simula to this grow light stand, http://www.hydroponic-growing-systems.com/grow-light-stand.html except it don't show any reflective sheeting in place, but sample principle, great for those of us who can't saw, screw, nail. teehee.

Thanks for all the info in this thread. I made a long time ago, but I actually just came back to ask the same question  .
And yeah, its looking like I'll prolly just end up buying one rather than fuck around with building one. If I'm upgrading to a 400w light, my house is going to be WAY too hot on the second floor to run that in my room 
That said...can anyone suggest some cheap grow tents that'll work well with a 400w light? Looking to spend about $100.

Edit: @Sloth - OMG, those portable closet things are perfect  If I end up rigging one of these up I'll totally bump with the finished result. Seems like a good project for me and my homies.

hey ras....if you want too DIY tent go too home depot n get some 1 5\8" studs with a couple pieces of track....mite cost you 40$ too build a 6x6 box....then go pick up some mylar from your local hydroponick store and hang your mylar directly onto your studs....its wat im doing so far im 70bux in n have a 10x 8 room

Well I used PVC pipe for my frame and Blk/Wht poly/vinyl to enclose the tent. Absolutely no issues whatsoever.
