Cooltubed HID Light.
    #495297 - 11/05/10 06:05 AM (14 years, 23 days ago)

Can some one recommend me a Cool-tubed HID light for Marijuana Cultivation? Maybe one with a high wattage But under 600. A cheap one if there is one.

Also I have a question I just transplanted My seedlings in to 1 Gallon containers. And well I am trying not to over water but I can't Saturate the whole pot without over watering It to get to it saturated. Will the soil at the bottom of the pot dry out? Cause I have only been misting the soil of my seedlings.

Don't worry about saturating your soil.  That's fine to do as long as you let it dry out after that.  You shouldn't have to re-water them for at least another week.  And don't mist the soil.  There is no need whatsoever.

As far as a cool tube, look around.  Go to RVF and ebay and just look at what's out there and make a decision.

Well when I mist it That's how I water them pretty much. I give the soil A good mist for about a minute. But it drys up pretty quick. Within a day after misting it isn't so moist anymore.

Ok will do.

Well you shouldn't be misting the soil to water it.  You should just water it.

there's a few guides i think to construct a makeshift temporary cooltube
i think i might have to do that
i have a 250w hps, brand new and reflector
and a grow space of about 3x2x4/5(5 if i raise/remove the shelf)
and i bought a fan, with about 90cfm
"Flow Rate, Imperial:94cu.ft/min"
http://octopart.com/4656n-ebm-papst-4595

i take it this fan, as an exhaust gauge, replaces the air in my growspace (30 square feet) about three times per minute (90+cfm)

but i'm probably gonna slap a smaller fan in there to brush the plants and move the air some more, will my reflector fry my plantlife if i'm not careful?

i would like to get it up close and personal so they bask in glorious light but i think i'm gonna need more ventilation

tips?
and yes, i will be investing (building via DIY guide) in a carbon scrubber
so i guess if i can work a cooltube into my plans if it's absolutely necessary

i kinda have an urge to spend a good amount of my coming income on fans and the like to make this setup satisfy its haven's inhabitants

I wouldn't count on that fan to cool the light, let alone pull air through a carbon filter.

What causes brownish dead patches on the first leafs? My Blue Cheese Has brown deadish patches on the first leafs but the others don't? Could it be from the heat of the light or overwatering? And The blue cheese has some purple genetics cause the leafs are purple that are coming out.

Either nutrient or Ph imbalance, I'm guessing Ph, because thats what it is 9 times out of 10.

Thats kinda low for soil grown plants, have you checked your soil Ph or runoff?

What you think? I used a rapitest ph meter it said the ph was 6.5 but It seems to say 6.5 for everything.

I just have so much trouble with watering seedlings I don't know how much to water and when to water. I think I try too hard.

Like I said, don't sorry about it.  Saturate the soil, then wait until it dries out.  With the size of your plants in ratio to the size of your containers, that should be at least a couple of weeks.

Seriously wow. SO it does not harm the roots if the soil around them is dry. I always thought I had to keep it moist. I mean I watered them pretty good other day and I am sure they will start to droop here sooon.

Well you don't have seeds any more, they're seedlings at this point.  You'd be surprised how big of a root system they have already.

Now if you have seeds that haven't germinated yet, then yes, you want to mist the soil.  But once you have your first set of true leaves showing you are doing a disservice to your plants by keeping them continually moist.  Keeping your soil constantly saturated can bring on a whole lot of issues.

And I wouldn't be overly concerned about the issues with those leaves unless it starts progressing.  Are you using straight FF ocean forest??  If so then you could be seeing just a touch of nutrient burn, but nothing to be horrible worried about.

Thank you I needed that. All the problems have stopped since I stopped misting the soil daily. I am using happy frog organic mix. I just didn't know to stop misting after They had there first leafs. That actually explains a lot. I Haven't watered them since Saturday and they are still not looking thirsty. But maybe later tonight or tomorrow I will not sure. Cause I didn't water them enough on Saturday to were water came out the bottom. So maybe tonight.

Well then this time, THOROUGHLY saturate that soil.  Hits is going to encourage the roots to go deeper into your medium and you wont have to water as frequently.
