So, I plan to quit smoking(cigarettes).
    #475335 - 09/10/10 08:57 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

So this is my plan, on Sunday the 12th, right before I go to sleep I shall smoke my very last cigarette. I then plan to go at least 14 days without smoking.

Cigarettes supposedly lose the physical withdrawal after 2 weeks of not smoking, I'm going to attempt to go that long without smoking....will be hell for 2 weeks. Want to see how I feel after 2 weeks of not smoking, not only to prove or disprove the fact, but to see if I can make it that long.

I'm doing this for two reasons, first is cash, second is I forget how it is to be "healthy", smoking has made me a worse person.

    My method....Cold turkey.

The only method guaranteed to work...everything else is just bull crap. Smoking less or using a patch doesn't work for most people, going cold turkey works by making the withdrawal shorter, you experience a great deal of anguish yet it is over the quickest.
People smoking "less" just put the body in a chronic state of drug-withdrawal....mmm, cold turkey.:homerdrool:

I will update from time to time to let you all know my progress... I will either get to two weeks and feel fine, or I'll be craving it just as bad as ever.
After two weeks everything else is just mental addiction and is much easier to resist that an actual physical addiction.
...But that doesn't mean I'm going to enjoy this, one bit.

                                                  :lophcrankey:

It hasn't been 10 years but it has been long enough that I don't remember when I started.
The worst part about it is I smoke non-filtered cigs...so my body is use to large amounts of nicotine, resisting smoking will be twice as hard as a normal smoker.

A lot of these facts I simply got from this. Cold Turkey.

Seems very well educated...might have to keep reading it when my cravings start pounding in.

lol stopping for 2 weeks won't help you remember what it's like to be healthy. That happens after about 6 months of zero smoking.

Just stop smoking all together. You'll have more cash, you'll smell better, your teeth will look better and your day to day won't revolve around when and where you can have a cig.

Start running or cycling and enjoy life.

The best way to quit smoking is to equate it to something you already hate.

Such are poor lung capacity and cancer.

I've quit smoking a couple times using ecigs. Went back to normal cigs because my first ecig stopped working. Then bought a titan ecig a couple months ago.

The ecig technology has advanced/improved a lot over the past year and a half or so, the new models are so much better than the old and give persistant big hits.

Would defiantly recommend a titan model ecig if you fail. It is so easy to quit smoking with them.

They do not leak into your mouth like an older model did and they give wayyyy bigger vapor hits than the older models, and a lot more persistently.

Once you are smoking the ecig, I found it pretty easy to even quit the ecig once you have fully adapted.

I just bought 4 bottles of 30ml/36 mg for 15 dollars each which is half price special tw has right now. They also sell the medical grade pg which is really cheap, you take the 36mg and use 50/50 pg/nicotine liquid and make a 18mg (cig strength) liquid for half the price. I just spent 90 dollars on liquid since it was on sale and that should last me a good 6 months, or longer, and I smoke it a lot.

The flavor I got I found interesting that they make it, it is the lotus flavor. I found that to be very interesting and all my bottles are that flavor. It is kinda odd but it's not bad. Yes, lotus as in blue lotus ^.^

    The rest of you:
I really hope I can do this...and no, I know 2 weeks won't make me healthy again, but after 2 weeks the physical addiction dies, and from then on it is just mental bull crap.
Tomorrow is the day...my last day of smoking.

Main problem is I do little on a daily basis...smoking is great for killing time/boredom, so this will be almost impossible.

Can't wait till my lung capacity returns.

You can use an electronic cig with just the pg without the nicotine, and that is really, really cheap. You can select a bunch of flavors from the site too.

http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.com/

Since you can control the amount of nicotine in the liquid with the pg, you could also ween yourself off nicotine with them.

Those things are really inefficient, and you're still going to be addicted to nicotine.  Better to go cold turkey than to ween yourself off with cigs imo.

The new models give you big hits, the old models did kind of suck, only gave a decent hit less than half the time, leaked in your mouth, they had quite a few design flaws.

Titan and tornado are the newer models.

Yeah I was reading not too long ago about the cartridges being "used" up but still being half full.  Among other articles questions the efficiency of vaping the nicotine.  IDK.  I don't smoke anyways.

You can tell the difference in the taste when the cartridge is running out.

Then you just take your liquid and refill the cartridge with a few drops and it is like a new cart again. The new ones are very persistent in giving big hits.

I quit completely about two weeks ago after smoking for 6 years, still going strong but get cravings every so often mostly when drinking and around people smoking.

The first few days are the hardest but after about a week you forget you even smoked, well for me anyway. Everyone who knows me is surprised even got £20 from a freind who bet that I wouldn't last a week, although it's still early days i can't see myself ever smoking again.

edit: forget about e-cigs or any of that shit, just quit and when u have cravings search for anti-smoking ads and pictures of smokers lungs, it works as good motivation for me

My wife and I are on day 3 of no cigarettes right now...

The other day, when she compared smoking cigarettes to the addiction of meth, it really clicked in my head. I mean, there's a lot of the same chemicals in a cigarette that are used to make meth. Now, I'm NOT a tweaker, I HATE the shit. I tried it once, and I think god there wasn't any more around for me to do, otherwise, I'd probably still be hooked!

So, every time I think of wanting a cigarette, I tell myself "Well, why don't you go get some ice to smoke while you're at it?"

That usually kills the craving for me pretty well... lol

That's a really good way to look at it.

Exercising is also a great way to distract yourself and learn new ways to feel good. Even going for long walks is sufficient exercise. A good healthy diet too will help make you feel better.

Of course, both will help you overcome the damage to your body caused by cigarettes and will help withdrawal go by a lot faster and more painlessly.

I developed chronic anxiety from severe abuse of methylphenidate and coke. Psilocybin mushrooms and pot may have also played a part. Cigarettes began to severely agitate my anxiety a lot. It got to a point where it was just completely unenjoyable to smoke. So I guess in that sense I was lucky. I gave up caffeine too.

Withdrawing sucked of course, and every time I craved or really wanted one, I went running or I grabbed my gym bag and went straight to the gym. Keep yourself distracted and make something healthy your stress relief.

So, it's been 11 days for me and my wife now... Still getting bad cravings, but that's to be expected, as we live with two people who still smoke inside the house.

I'm pretty sure this time we'll quit for good! I've been feeling SO much better these days. I'm coughing up black crap out of my lungs every day... lol

Man, Canada's got the right idea. Put right on the pack in BIG BOLD letters, "Smoking this WILL kill you."

I wouldn't say that, honestly. I think about 45% of all the smokers I know say that if they could figure out how to quit, they would. Older smokers know, but are too entrenched in habit to kick it.

Younger smokers might know, but they're the ones that don't give a flying fuck. They like it, and think it's cool, or whatever their reasoning is... But by the time they realize it's something they really don't want to do for the rest of their life, it's too late, and they're irrevocably hooked.

Yeah the reasons cigs are so addictive is not only do you have a strong physical addiction, nicotine, but you also have a strong habituation.  Cig while you're driving, cig on break, cig when you wake up ect.  You find out that you smoke while doing so many activities and those activities become cues for you to light up.

you know what i did in english class? I came to class stoned out of my mind every day, i chugged vodka in the back of class, i put dead fish in the ceiling tiles. i put a gallon of old milk and orange juice in the file cabinet before winter vacation. i brought snakes in a tied up sweater and let them loose during class. i didnt go to school to learn, i went because i had to. i didnt care, and i didn't fucking listen to that stupid bitch. and i still don't fucking care. i tore the pages out of her books and burned them, and threw away all the books in the class, two books per day.  :twobooks:

That's so true, man. When we decided to quit smoking, we started cutting it out of the routine. First, since we spent a LOT of time driving around at the time, we stopped smoking in the car. That in and of itself was a bitch!!! Do you know how hard it is to be driving on a suspended lisence and have a cop follow you for a while and NOT be able to light one up?!  Next we cut out the after-bowl cigarette. THAT one is a bitch and a half! Shortly after that though, we got sick, and simply taking a drag was murder, so it wasn't too hard after that...

We both still have issues with residual habits trying to come back. After bowls and after meals mostly is when we crave a cig, these days...
