Growing in a soiless medium is a form of hydroponics FYI.
Possible causes for your yellowing.
1.) N Deficiency (yellowing leaves starting from the bottom of the plant, rusty red stems on the fan leaves) 2.) Mg/Fe Deficiency (yellowing leaves starting from the bottom of the plant, leaf margins and leaf yellow while veins stay green) 3.) P Deficiency (yellowing leaves starting from the bottom of the plant, purplish stems on fan leaves, necrosis of leaves can occur)
Judging from your pic I'd lean towards 1 or 2. Hard to say since to me it shows symptoms of both a N and Mg deficiency. My advice would be feed with something that's a little higher in N and supplement with a Mg product like CalMag.
Quote: Are there any ways to add nitrogen to the nute mix that doesn't involve buying a fertilizer?
Well the N has to come from somewhere, be it a pre mixed solution like grow big or a compost tea made from bat guano etc You need to have a source of N somewhere along the line. Any way to contact your friend and figure out what the hell is in those bottles?
The yellowing of the leaves with the green veins just screams Mg deficiency. Possible nute overdose locking out your plant (which can be blocking P and K right now as well).
When was the last time you flushed? What medium are you growing in? Have you figured out exactly what you're feeding them yet?
Quote: The Ph of his last nutrient solution was about pH8
Ouch, that's waaaay too alkaline for a soiless grow. pH between 5.8 and 6.2 is what you want to shoot for. Anything above that locks out P and K and N. I'm not too sure how alkaline you can get before your micros stop being absorbed, but I'm sure it's not much farther past 6.2 if at all.
I thought the canna line had pH buffers in it, but I'm not sure. I've never used that line personally but know plenty who have. Crusty Old Bastard grows coco using the canna line I believe. He might be someone to send a friendly message to and get some advice from
