Strain for Coco.
    #465774 - 08/23/10 08:20 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

After nearly two years of problems in soil i have to admit defeat and make the switch.
Can anyone recommend a solid strain for me to start with ?

A fruity indica would be nice, it needs to be forgiving though i want this to be as trouble free as possible.

Thanks.

how would the medium effect the strain?

you wnt something forgiving and troublefree
get some autoflowers
they suck (imo) but will grow no matter what.

I dunno lol, maybe if a breeder uses coco their strains will be better suited for that than in soil/DWC or whatever.

I might get some autoflowers but i only want one really for a quick smoke while the others do their thang.

IMO, any strain will do good in coco. Coco is often compared to hydroponics but has a soil like medium which keeps the roots insulated and prevents damage which is a huge issue in DWC/NFT if you ever need to move your plants. I know some guys who switched from NFT systems to coco and got improved yield.

Strain doesn't really matter, I don't know of any strains that prefer one medium over another. Some strains will take off better in DWC just because of how their roots grow.

As for a fruity indica, I think Chimera has some good offerings I'm currently growing out his Mental Floss and his C-Plus. I think Mental Floss is a Cotton Candy female crossed to a Blueberry male. Cotton Candy is Haze, blueberry, afghani mixture I think. C-plus is california orange crossed with blueberry, orange cream sickle anyone?

Mental floss looks perfect, that's exactly what i'm looking for.
I could do with fems tho really, should have mentioned that but i might be able to work something out.

Thanks for the info, i feel less like i'm gonna acidentally stumble into a difficult situation.

I'm still not sure what fems I'd trust. A lot of people go with fems because they don't have room to waste sexing out males, or they can't risk a male spreading pollen. For the latter these people are usually upset they picked fem seeds as a lot of fems on the market will throw down pollen big time.

Mental Floss is a winner for sure. It has good smoke, makes great hash, and yields like a beast.

It's a space and labor issue, i have a 3'x3' cab and no separate veg area for a mom so i go fresh from seed every time,, regs aren't un-doable just awkward.

Fems have been ok for me, i had male flowers at the nodes on my first few grows but i had that with regs too so i can't blame the fems.
I've policed my plants with a dental mirror ever since and the last 3 strains have been clear.
AK-47
AK-48
Double Dutch.

Never had a disaster yet so i trust em.
