HPS and MH heat

I have a small grow closet that is about 2'x4'x7'. When I turn on my 400w HPS, it heats up to damn near 100 degrees. On the other hand, when I turn on my 400W MH it temp stays in the mid 80s. The MH is a bit closer to the exhaust, and both ballasts are in the same area. Anyone know what the cause might be? Both are mounted in plain reflectors so thats not it. I don't use both at the same time, but would like to alternate.

The exhaust fan is mounted in the ceiling towards the top left just out of frame in the pic. It's just an in-line booster duct fan 4". I plan on upgrading soon, just need some advice until then.

You may need a inlet and a outlet fan instead of just one outlet, flood the air out and it will cool.

Yeah, but what I dont get is the drastic temperature difference between the two 400w lights. I understand that a few degrees would be normal, but it's almost 20 degrees hotter with the hps.

for your situation cool tubes are the way to go for sure, but you will need a nice fan for that if you want to run both at same time
What do you use for intake? Some oscillating fans there would take a few degrees also.
