Light burn.
    #451952 - 07/27/10 03:36 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

I have a 600w HPS and my plants grew tall and extremely fast due to a 24 hr schedule the first two weeks, and now 5 and a half weeks in, my plants center got burnt by the lights, and i am curious if since it burnt the center if the bud will bud elsewhere?

Your goal should be to have as many of your plant's bud sites as equidistant to the light source as possible.  Therefore, if your plant is growing right into your bulb, you should really be tying it down so that it leans away from the light and the lower (smaller) branches will be triggered to reach out and grow out toward the light.  Alternately, you can raise the light, but this will in turn reduce the effectiveness of your light on the lower bud sites of your plant.

A little light burn isn't going to ruin your crop, but it will halt or severely limit bud production where the burn occurred.  Use some twine and twist-ties to train your plant around your light, exposing as many bud sites as possible, at an equal distance from the light, and far enough away that they won't be burnt!  Having a fan blowing on your light as well as the top of your canopy will also help to disperse excessive heat... though you'll still need to be careful about branches or leaves that get too close.

Remember that this could not only be bad for your plant, but a potential fire hazard as well!

Well geo thx for that, but it is already to late for that, I can not possibly raise my light n e higher, I have fans blowing on the light and in the room, 75 degrees at 60% humidity i just left the lights on 18 hr schedule for too long. The plant literally grew into the light, now that you mentioned training the plant I will do that next time.

IF YA CAN'T I HAVE TAKEN CHICKEN WIRE AND LEANED THE TOPS OVER AND WRAPPED IT OVER THE TOPS FORCING THE PLANTS TO LAY DOWN .. WITH ALL THIS GROWTH IT DOESN'T HELP YEILD.... REMEMEBER NEXT TIME WHEN U SWITCH TO 12 12 THE PLANTS R GONNA GROW ANOTHER FOOT OR TWO...

Unless you've grown a 6 foot tall tree with a thick stalk, you should still be able to pull the colas that are nearest to the light, towards the sides of your grow space.  It's either that or chop them off prematurely... 'cause having plant matter so close to your light that it's getting burnt won't do a damn thing for your yield (will actually block light from other farther away bud sites), and frankly can be dangerous!  In other words, just do what you have to do to make sure that the space immediately surrounding your light bulb is free from plant matter!

Man that lost comment is what i was afraid of, they still are really healthy but i was certain the center bud was the largest yield.

hey man the plant will focus it energy to other buds.. if it just starting to flower say 3 weeks in i wouldn't worry. when it sucks is 5 weeks or later.. if it isn't gonna do much chop of the dead part don't let it take the light for the others
