Drying needs action ASAP...
    #436845 - 06/24/10 06:20 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Well, its been a week now and even my small buds still have bendy stems. I've been running a fan in the closet with them for the past 4 days, and they have crisped up a tiny bit, but still nothing.

The humidity here is fucking 98% or something rediculous. Needless to say, it sucks to even move, let alone have to function in this weather condition.

Anyway, I'm going on vacation for a few days, and I really need this bud to dry up before I leave. I know its bad to quick-dry them with any method, but it needs to be done. I feel like they are going to be getting moldy - SOON.

So, which quick drying method is best? Oven on real low? My buds are all rather small...the biggest is only the length of the palm of my hand, and prolly 3.5 inches in diameter.

Any help is appreciated...I just need to dry these within the next 24 hours. Thanks.

Yeah, the paper bag thing usually IS my next step, but I won't be here tomorrow or the next day to vent it...

I cut it when I did in hopes that it'd be ready before I left, so I wouldn't have to worry about it. I didn't count on this humidity.

I usually put some in my oven if im taking tester nugs from my plants. I just put it in the oven on the lowest setting the oven will allow for like 20-30 minutes but def check on it often because it obviously depends.

I just did it on the oven...I dunno. They certainly dried up, but are kinda crumbly now. Not all of them, just the smallest buds. The bigger ones were still a little bendy, so I put it in a paper bag. Gonna go in the jar tonight and hope it doesn't get moldy while I'm gone

Rice!
dried white rice works awesome as a desiccant it will absorb any moisture around it...
If your rice is open just spread some on a sheet and pop em in the oven for like 10 minutes on low and then scoop in into a container with a lid and pop your buds in there...
Ive done this with great success with mushrooms and ive tried it on some buds, they end up cracker dry IME...
And it does it quick!

Good point, I totally forgot about that.  I save the dessicants from all sorts of products like shoes and whatnot, in case I need to quick dry any buds.  I throw them in with the paper bag and add a little heat, will be dry in hours.

ugh. I wish I had seen this earlier.  Drying in the oven for your whole headstash?  I think that's gonna be some harsh ass smoke.
Ah well, live and learn.

Smoked some, and its not so harsh. Its pretty sticky, so I had that mistaken for moisture I think. I dunno, its still good.

And, always better after curing anyway.

And rice, good call! I'll toss some in there for the few days I'm gone and hope that works out.

Hey, if you're not forced to dry quickly, a fresh crop ALWAYS benefits from a curing process!

Fast drying is not ideal muse, and I would advise against the DampRid if you want to get the most from your plants.

Andddddddd, a few days later I'm back.

I left them in a paper bag while I was gone, and the stems are STILL fucking bendy. I put it in a jar and been airing it. I don't know what else to do, it just won't dry!

Tried it

I'm not just being impatient either...I don't even plan on smoking this for a few months. I just wanna make sure it doesn't get moldy. I might have to do the damp-rid. That always worked well in other applications - within 24 hours too. Hmm.

Noted that summer time here isn't so great for harvesting.

Theres gotta be somethin you did wrong?
Ive never ever had it not work, its based on science.
maybe the wrong kind of rice or it was improperly stored, or improper preparation for drying to get rid of the moisture in the rice so it can absorb more, or improper container used to dry with the rice., Im tellin you man its foolproof and it does work 100% when done right.
anyway you said you left them in the bag before you left so it couldnt have been that long that you left them with the rice anyway...
restaraunts put the rice in their salt shakers to absorb the moisture so the salt doesnt glob up the holes.

the damp rid worked for me, only took 3 days and I cant really tell the difference between that and the regular air dry that took 5 days
