How much would a 150watt grow raise my electricity bill? How much does YOUR grow raise YOUR bill?

So I'm thinking about starting up a grow for personal use but my landlord pays the electricity bill so I doubt I'll be able to use a 400watt HPS and get away with it.
I'm just curious how much a 150 watt HPS grow would raise my electricity bill?
And how much does YOUR grow raise YOUR electricity bill? Include what watt light you use and everthing else you use that uses electircity.
I haven't hung around this site in a while but I plan too hang around here a LOT more as I start up my first indoor grow. Hopefully you guys can teach me a thing or two.

150 watts of CFL 24/7 and 150 watts of HPS 12/12 is barely even noticeable..$7 at most.
Depending upon where you're from, this shouldn't make TOO much of a difference - its summer time now so you'll be using fans. In the winter time, many homes have some kind of electric heating...so, between the heating stopping and the fans running, he prolly wouldn't notice 150 watts. But I dunno. Its your call on risking it or not.
-------------------- Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

Chump change. Electricity is cheap, you will be surprised how much it costs to run 4000w of electricity on 12/12, no more than $200/month, not bad considering what you would be making under that wattage.
There is NOTHING to worry about.

Exactly. 300w added 6-7 dollars a month for me. Nothing to even bat an eyelash over... Now if it were 15,000 watts I would probably worry a little bit.

Even then, As long as HE was the one paying the bill and it was paid on time he would be fine. Ya he cant really do it with the land lord paying it. but for future reference!

A 600w HPS with a 170cfm exhaust fan and a couple other fans in the grow area raised a friend's bill by about $25-30 per month. You can get a stupid amount of weed from a 600w light if you do it right.
If you're that worried about power... I recently got about two ounces dry out of a 18x18.5x44 micro grow with six 26w actual, 100w equivalent CFLs. There was no noticeable change in my electric bill.
Granted, I've seen what T5s and HIDs can do and you'll get much better yields with those sorts of lights but if stealth and heat are an issue at all then T5/CFLs are a decent option.

Waste not, my friend. I wouldn't really say the small ones on the left were nuggs at all... more like pistils on a stem. They did make for an okay preview though. The plants were harvested a bit early as well, about half of the pistils had started turning orange/dying on the predominantly indica plant, the sativa plant looked like it could have used at least 2-3 more weeks.

Yah, in cases like these just do the math for yourself. If you're just counting the light (no fans, fluro's, etc) just take the wattage, multiply by 12 to get wattage used per day, then multiply that by thirty to get wattage used per month. Then take that number and divide by 1000 to get kilowatts used per month, and finally multiply that number by what you get charged per kWh on your bill (average is around $.07 i believe)
so (assuming 150 watt lamp)
150 * 12 = 1,800 Watts/Day 1,800 * 30 = 54,000 Watts/Month 54,000 /1000 = 54 kWh/Month 54 * .07 = $3.78/Month
so $3.78 is all your bill will be raised by give or take for running a 150 watt lamp. Running some exhaust fans might raise it by a dollar or two, but it won't be much.

So if your math is correct, I could run a 150watt grow with a couple exhause fans for around $5 give or take a dollar. That would easily go unnoticed by the landlord.
I could even get awaw with vegging some plants under some CFL's to pull off a constant harvest.
So now my next question is, should I buy a grow tent for this, or just make my own grow hut?

Depends on how handy you are, how much you want to spend etc. It's always cheaper to build your own, but it's easier and less hassle to buy a pre-fab grow area.
I bought that cabinet for like 60-70 bucks and modified it myself. Was about 3 hours or so of work. You can build it even cheaper if you buy raw lumber and build it from the ground up.
We have a grow room design forum that's perfectly suited to help you get up and running. If you're looking to build your own I highly recommend sending a PM to Inverted or Harry Ballsach as they both construct some solid grow rooms.

I would say you are very likely not to even notice a permanent change in your bill with a 150.

Nice!
So what all did you do to the cabinet besides the holes for ventilation, and painting it white? Did you do anything to the door to make it more air tight/ light proof?

I specifically bought a white cabinet so I wouldn't have to paint it. All I really did was buy some vinyl door sweeps to cover the crack in the middle of the doors, then covered the door sweeps in a few layers of duct tape for added protection. I bought a sheet of plywood and reinforced the back of the cabinet and added in the shelf to hold the carbon filter.
That's pretty much it right there, I think the biggest pain was cutting the vent holes. I really didn't have the right tool for the job so they came out a bit fucked lol. The cabinet itself weighed a fucking ton, so if you don't have someone to help you be prepared for a possible hernia

I'm going to have to go out to the Thrift Stores tomarrow and see if I can find any good cabinets.
My girlfriends dresser broke today so right now without the shelving in it its just an empty box without a front and an open bottom, about 1.5'x3'x4'. I might try and transform that into the vegging chamber.
I haven't even started this grow yet and I'm already getting excited about it!
