Good looks. I'm a huge comedy fan. Made it a point to try and see more live comedians, I saw Jim Breuer earlier this year and he was fucking excellent.
Currently my favorite standup is Doug Stanhope. I should post the best of his shit on here, I know there's already a bunch of Stanhope fans on the Growery, but those of you who are unfamiliar need to get acquainted with his work. He frequently incorporates his own drug experiences with psychedelics and other drugs in to his acts. Here's one of my favorite clips where he describes his experience trying DMT with Joe Rogan. IMO one of the best descriptions of a DMT experience ever, narrated in a comedic and entertaining way.
Anyone who considers themself a comedy fan and likes to think they have a good taste in comedians needs to watch that. NOW!

You've probably seen a minimal amount of Stanhope's material. What little material you've seen you most likely watched with a bias preconception because you saw him on The Man Show or some shit 8 years ago for 20 minutes and didn't like him. For the record he hated doing that show, and made it known he had to water himself down to the point of disgust to do that show. I think Rogan is decent too, but Stanhope is definitely fucking hilarious. You need to list specific reasons you think he's not funny and some comedians who you think are funny. IMO he has one of the most unique styles of any comedian, his experiences with drugs and the way he integrates them in to his act leads to socially relevant jokes with real intelligence behind it. He makes points known (esp about the drug war, psychedelics etc) and presents it in such a way that is comical so people laugh but they also absorb the information and listen to what he has to say. Who else has done that well since Bill Hicks, George Carlin?

From what I just heard, him and Rogan both expressed that DMT was released when you die. That's something that came from Mckenna's book, but there's no data out there that proves this to be true.

Steve Buscemi said: Seen all of Stanhope's material and just about every comedian ever on tv. He isn't funny. Comedians: Richard Pryor George Carlin Red Foxx Jerry Seinfeld Eddie Murphy Rodney Dangerfield
these men are gods, they make laughs come out of my body until I hurt. Stanhope is a bum, and flop sweats so hard I feel embarrassed all the way from my living room.
All good comedians, although about as mainstream as they get. If you hate Stanhope as much as you claim to I find it hard to imagine you sitting there and unbiasedly watching a 1 hour Stanhope special or something just so you can be sure you don't like him. I'd be willing to bet you've probably seen less than 1 hour combined of Stanhope material and what little you did you already had negative preconceptions for whatever reason.
It's like when with me and several of my friends will get in to a music discussion and Tool will come up, and I will mention how Tool fucking rules (cause they do) and some people will just be like Tool sucks or I hate Tool, all Tool fans are goth kids that walk around the mall and shop at hot topic, because they heard "The Pot" and "Vicarious" a few times on the radio before, but they are sooo sure a band with a massive cache of epic songs they've never even taken the time to hear before. All of a sudden they are fucking experts with next to no frame of reference.
Seems like a similar mentality here. Like I said, if you really believe that than list some specific reasons why he isn't funny while citing examples of his poor performance from actual content you've seen. It probably won't be easy because I'm guessing you've seen /heard next to none of it, but want to be the comedy expert here. If you've seen "all of his material" on "TV" (most of his shit would never be seen other than on HBO/cinmax specials), in fact I've seen very little of him on TV and torrented most of his specials and watched individual youTube clips. Smells like bullshit brah..

Lol once again I guess you're just the resident expert on everything. Now since you know I like Tool and Doug Stanhope you have enough information to reduce my collective tastes of everything to that of a teenager, because only teenagers like them. Good call, considering Stanhope, like most comedians plays to 21+ audiences 100% of the time and rarely appears on TV. As for Tool, they are obviously above your level of sophistication, you're just one of those people who can't actually connect with the actual content of what Tool embodies. If you had any clue what you were talking about you'd know the complexity and depth of Tool's songs along with their unrivaled live show make them in the running for one of the greatest bands of all times. As far as psychedelic rock goes, which happens to be my favorite genre of music, they rival the intensity of bands like Floyd, Zeppelin, Hendrix, CREAM, and the other juggernauts of psychedelic rock. Do you even take psychedelics, have you ever even heard a Tool song under the influence of one? Until you have you literally haven't actually "heard" Tool, if it wasn't dead on here right now I'm sure plenty of people would be here to testify to that.

That's a pretty epic scale of world-renowned talent you just humiliated. That is just sacrilegious to compare Tool to any of those bands.

Heh, once again I doubt either of you have ever listened to Tool on a heady dose of a psychedelic. Their reputation for live performances easily rivals and possibly due to advances in technology surpasses the stage shows of old Floyd, Zeppelin, Hendrix tours. What I mean by that is bands who are capable of synchronizing their music with psychedelic tapestries and light displays resembling the experience of synthesia experience while tripping as to provide the ultimate trip for those UTI at the show. Even if you hated Tool's music, if you actually know shit about music/the band you'd have trouble denying the legendary status of their live shows, especially shows from the 2002 Lateralus tour.
