gnats
    #429912 - 06/08/10 12:17 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

I have some gnat issues that need to be resolved, I have access to fertilome triple action, it says fungus gnats, and says its okay for vegetables fruits etc., it has a fungicide in it, and my worries are that, it will kill the beneficial fungus of mine. I intend to spray the soil.

yea its only when in  flowering its bad i have read.. after my basement flooded a bit i had em not horribly bad but id shake it and kill 7 each time i visited.. less watering, stickey traps in ur setup, a water bottle cut in half with some apple cider vinegar in it with the top reattached upside down (cap towards vinegar.) makes a fly lure i call it but i did not put it into my growbox i put it just outside it because i think inside it was just luring more into my growbox.. clean ur area with some bleach water cous there is prob a food source if not from the dirt itself (not outside dirt right?) besides buying the stickey traps for a buck and a quarter i only see 1 every couple days.. thay seem not to like my flower box only my vegg

I have cleaned all the walls with bleach, 3 sticky traps, sand, (going to add half inch), just saw a smaller mite, and possible powdery mold.
They seem to enjoy my flowering area more, about three weeks into flowering.  Honestly thinking about
using the fertilome stuff, just wanna know if I'm gonna harm anything.

i had so many problems with pests (particularly those lil gnats) with soil that i did away with it all together and went hydro.

havent had a problem yet, but ive been dottin my i's and crossin t's if ya know wut i mean.

definately lower your humidity and temps to try and fix it.
before i switched over, i tried putting a layer of sand on top, but my plant seemed to suffer from it, slowed growth for certain, but that being said i wasnt useing very big pots to begin with.

i used beer and vinegar for my lures and i put them everywhere, inside and out.

good luck man, try transplanting into a soil with diatomaceous earth mixed in, the larvae will feed on that instead of roots and kill themselves.

but if all else fails, i know what worked for me

haven't seen one knat since

you can find it at any pool store
