Dark period at the end of flowering?
    #429026 - 06/05/10 10:48 AM (14 years, 6 months ago)

So, I read somewhere in a plant description on a seedbank that "its best to give her 5 days of pure darkness before harvesting so she can fill out" or something like that.

I'd never heard of this, but it was pretty interesting to me.

Anyone ever tried this? Is it a good or bad idea?

oh man, i wouldn't recommend 5 days.  That's a little too much.  I had heard that people do it for 2 days or 36 hours for various reasons.  Never seen any really convincing controlled experiments on the subject though.  I also think i recall magash saying he thought this was junk.  But don't quote me or him on that as im not 100% sure i can trust my memory on it.

I didn't think so...usually, if theres something to it I had read about it at least once before. I'm not sure what their exact wording was, but I know they said 5 days.

I've definitely heard of that but I don't really see a noticeably difference when that happens

Hmmmm...does it help flush the nutes out at all? I've seen some people with wicked yellow leafs at the end, could that flush it better?

well I would think having the lights running would flush better because it would encourage the plant to consume whatever food was left stored in the leaves

Its because cannabinoid production is highest in the dark, so the extra couple days is supposed to add to the potency...this subject is actualpy in this months high times lol

Really? :bouncey:

I wish I could get High Times, but damn - its way too expensive. If it was the price of normal magazines I'd be all over it

While I'm derailing my thread, are there any other good weed magazines?

High times is just a magazine targeting noob growers so that they buy into their products which in reality suck ass and well, the magazine is only good for bud pron.  Thats it...

Hey i tried this on my last grow, some little bird in the woods told me the same thing loooong ago, along with not watering for the last week(after i had flushed a few times of course) to make sure the plant gave all that it had into the buds, and really pump out those gooey trichromes.
Can't really say it did much, made the buds a little stickier.
All i know is that about 60 percent of the pistols were matured, orange/brown before i did it, and after about 95 percent were orange/brown. So it just makes it mature the rest of the way i guess; dont quote me on that its just an observation i made.

Wouldn't stopping light all together stop photosynthesis in the plant? The lights helps the plant use the nutrients you are feeding it. And photosynthesis helps the plant use up the sugars too, so if you cut it off from all light I dont see how this would help trichome development?

Maybe I am missing something about the production of trichomes  But to me, it sounds like a myth, I could be wrong as Im not a professional, but I dont see any scientific benefit from doing something like that.
