WA Decriminalization Initiative

From: Supporters of legalizing pot plan to take it to the voters
Quote:
"It's clear that the Legislature has failed to deal with this issue once again," the I-1068 news release quotes initiative co-author and Seattle attorney Doug Hiatt as saying. "We're in the middle of a severe budget crisis in Olympia, and yet the Legislature can't get it together to stop wasting tens of millions of dollars a year on arresting, prosecuting and jailing regular citizens for marijuana possession. That's ridiculous."
If I-1068 makes it to the ballot and wins voter approval, it "would remove state civil and criminal penalties for persons 18 years or older who cultivate, possess, transport, sell, or use marijuana," according to the measure's summary. "Restrictions and penalties for persons under 18 would be retained."
What's great is this initiative will go strait to the voters this november.... I can't wait to start seeing these guys taking signatures outside of the super market.

Oh fuck yes!
Here is the link to their website: http://sensiblewashington.org The text of I-1068: http://sensiblewashington.org/read-i-1068/
Quote:
We’ve got a volunteer signature gatherer meeting for Seattle scheduled for Saturday March 20th from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the New Freeway Hall located at 5018 Rainier Avenue S. in Columbia City. A map is here. We’re also working on getting other Seattle meetings set up, but meeting space is tough to come by at a reasonable price (meaning free) in the Emerald City.
So come on down and learn how to gather signatures and get some I-1068 petitions.
I'm there. Anybody else going?

Righteous links 206. Stayin' on toppa that shit mayn! It'd be a wee bit of a drive but man, I hadn't actually thought of being one of the petitioner dudes! Matter of fact I should probably go for it. Not like I got much better to do with my time the way the economy is. I think my bong could use the break.

You don't have to have your voters registration card to vote do you? I am definitely going to give em my signature on this!
Participating in government activities actually seems fun now! :]

Actually I'm not 100% sure? ... mine has like my representative district numbers and shit on it so I think the states do use them too...
Anyone can sign the petition though.
Yeah man... If I did make it down to sign up and become a signature gatherer it'd be a first, but this one's got me motivated as well. It's probably the only way politics is going to work for normal dudes like us, but I think that's the way it's supposed to be.
We should have a growery train to Seattle.

If you go tell them the coast can drum up some major support. Seattle has enough voting power to pass this thing by itself almost.

Gotta bump this for all WA folks to hopefully see.
http://sensiblewashington.org/ <-- Go here for updates and info.
Check it out, make sure you can make it to a signing, the only way this won't pass is if the farmers out east start voting this down, hopefully they see the value in this cash crop.
