Can i clone with no horomones straight into soil?
    #424543 - 05/27/10 09:14 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

So i decided to see if it would work, and try to clone my plant without any rooting horomones as its kinda hard to find any where i live.

All i did was take some miracle grow organic choice mixed with vermiculite into a small pot and wet it to field capacity. Then i chose my choice clone, cut it blah blah and just stuck it directly into the soil. I then misted it and put ziploc ontop of the pot like a humidity dome.

I mist twice a day and its been 3 days so far, its not really wilting or anything but how would i know if it rooted? When should i take the bag off? For clones with rootig agents ive heard 2-3day on then take it off but im thinkin more like 6days on?

Its POSSIBLE to clone in just tap water, so I don't see why this shouldn't work, so long as you keep the soil moist to encourage it.

(don't take my word for it though haha. just my 2 cents)

I'm sure cloning was around much before cloning mediums were.

You're right on point, RasJeph.

I wouldn't take the dome off before at least a week has passed. For the most part cloning is a pretty simple process, just play around a little and see what works best for you.

You can check for roots by giving the stem a very gentle pull upwards, a little resistance would indicate roots.

I've gotta wonder...how would damp perilite work? Or does that not hold enough moisture to accommodate the roots?

Or... if, by a long shot, you happen to have a weeping willow tree nearby...

Quote:

To make rooting hormone soak the yellow-tipped shoots of a weeping willow tree in water. A tea made from the bark of a willow tree is also effective. When using the shoots or bark soak them for 24 hours prior to using.

When you buy rooting hormone at the store, this is what you're paying for. You'll be just as well off making it at home from what I've read.

im telling you DIY cloner
i may be new here
but growing weed is second nature to me
soil-less mixtures also work great to
like perlite and verm with some coco coir has always been good to me
because it doesent hold rot or mold all that easy IMO
(learnt that shit from the mushroom guru)

It works just fine. Make sure you keep the soil pretty moist and you'll see roots in no time.

Rooting hormone is a luxury that increases success but is in no way needed. Soil cloning is pretty simple.

I've actually pulled a clone out and seen no roots just a stalk. Pulled it out again the next day and there where roots shooting out everywhere.

Once the roots begin to grow they blast off. You could go 2+ weeks even without seeing any roots but that next day the will be everywhere.

Oh yeah, I'd take the bag off and observe it as the day progresses. If it can handle a whole day without the dome I'm sure your fine.

Make sure you watch it though. Don't just take it out and come back in 4 hours to find them all dead.
